Billy Joel: Ice or alcohol?

Recommended Posts

Billy ran off the road last night around 10:30 PM. Messed up his car when it hit a tree. They're not saying if he had been drinking. I'm wondering if the streets were icy... or what?

Don't know...I've heard he does enjoy his spirits. But, I'm for giving him the benefit of the doubt. At least, as far as I've heard, no one else was hurt, and according to the little Yahoo headline, he was out of the hospital.

Poor Billy, just hasn't been the same since Crissy Brinkley. I really don't care if he wants to be a drunk or not. He just shouldn't be driving while doing it. Maybe he will soon do a duet with Diana Ross. 99 bottles of beer on the wall.... 99 bottles of beer.......

This time of year, in the right location, and ice is definetly a factor. Besides, the media LOVES to make a big deal out of celebrity drunk driving. I'm sure if booze was involved, we'd have heard so a hundred times over. Whitefang

Billy, got a tip for you - since you're richer than all of us here combined to the 100th power(modest assumption) maybe its time to get yourself a chauffeur. Please give it some thought. Steve

Asleep at the wheel?, is he perhaps a diabetic? There are a number of other possibilities... I hope no one got hurt.

The urge for late-night pizza has caused so many accidents I expect they'll soon be putting health warnings on pizza boxes. "CAUTION! Late night pizza is bad for your digestion and can cause automotive disintegration."

Anyone remember the 2CV chase in that Roger Moore era Bond film?

No ice on local roads that night.

I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist.

Hard to say what happened but, The road through Bayville is a narrow twisting road that almost is like driving a figure eight. I used to deliver to the restaraunts and liquir stores there back in the eighties. In the late seventies my band used to play at a club there called Rheinhards, I almost wound up in a ditch a few times coming home being tired and not paying attention. Billy has lived around there for over twenty years, he should know that road by now. Paul.

For those who missed it, this thread was begun a year ago. This is a whole new accident. The article also mentions quite a few past ones. And it says he was never given a breathalyzer test in the 2003 accident. He's extremely fortunate never to have hurt anyone else. I think Raymar is right - he really needs a chauffer. Hopefully a better one than Princess Di had.

"he really needs a chauffer." or maybe a phone. hasn't joel heard that if you make a call, they will DELIVER pizza to your house? my guess on the accident is inertia, not booze. if you've seen how fat billy is these days, that little car just wasn't gonna stop the momentum of joel's bulk from contining in a straght line into the old man's house rather than make the turn.... :) -d. gauss

Its a sad thing...extremely talented songwriter that has nothing else to say. Hes wasting away somewhere on the Island getting drunk and fortunately no one has been hurt yet. It was not cold the other night when this occurred here in NYC/LI. So...I can not go with the benefit of the doubt. I just hope he gets his act together. Peace, Ernest

I should hope he (or his insurance co) would pay for the damages!
There was no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement and Joel was not suspected of any crime, Nassau County police said.
Hmmm, slamming your car into the side of someone's house isn't a crime? I'll have to keep that in mind for future reference....
