EnricoDePaoli Posted January 25, 2003 Posted January 25, 2003 Hi all ! I'm upgrading from my good and old 2408mkII... should I go mkIII or 896 ? I'd like to be able to go firewire for the coolness of portability... but I read that, the ADAT Optical on the 896 do not speak 88 nor 96k... Which could be a problem for connecting it digitaly to a 96K digital mixer... does anyone know if the 896 can be used STAND ALONE as 8 independet mic pres ??? the 2408mkIII seems to be very nice, speacially with all its ad-ons to the PCI-424... but it lacks the firewire.... what should I get ?? Opinions anyone ?? Enrico De Paoli - Rio de Janeiro - Brazil Studio / Live Engineering - Producer www.HitMixers.com/Enrico.html
Gus Lozada Posted January 25, 2003 Posted January 25, 2003 Oi Enrico ! All the internal routing in the 896 is made through software so I guess it might not work as a stand alone unit preamp box. Regarding the other questions... you have the answer ! If portability -and Mic pres- are the name of the game, get the 896. If ADAT and T-DIF @ 96 kHz are basic in your environment, there's no doubt you should get the 2408 mkIII. For studio, I guess the 2408 is the deal; you can always add a USB or FireWire portable interface to your rig like any from M-Audio, Edirol, Digidesign or Apogee if you still require some mic preamps and portability. Matt.Hepworth Posted January 26, 2003 Posted January 26, 2003 I understand M-Audio has a whole line of firewire products on the way, starting with the firewire 410. I've more impressed by M-Audio than MOTU, but maybe that's just me. No matter how good something is, there will always be someone blasting away on a forum somewhere about how much they hate it.
