Wewus432 Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 I'm not a health nut but I read a bit about the subject and it seems the advertising about Canola oil being as healthy for you as Olive Oil is not true. Read what Dr. Weil , has to say. And here's another view . Check around on the web. I'm not liking what I hear about this subject because I fell for the hype and have been using Canola for years. I know you can't always believe what you read but I trust Dr. Weil's opinion and I do believe Canola oil is not what it is presented to be.
G. Ratte Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 Does it enhance self-pleasuring like olive oil does? G. Ratte' http://www.cultdeadcow.com
realtrance Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 All I know is that I get sharp stomach pains and turn blue in the face when I use Canola oil; so, I've stopped using it. rt
Salyphus Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 Olive oil is much healthier but be sure not to use it for cooking at high temperatures becuase it breaks down and becomes carcinogenic (as all oils do at various temperatures). A better oil for high temp would be Peanut oil or Coconut oil which remain stable at higher temps. You can also take Omega-3 supplements to improve your Omega-3 to Omega-6 ratio, which is way off for most people. The thing you want to be the most careful to stay away from is any type of hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oil. That stuff is really really bad.
patrick_dont_fret Posted January 25, 2003 Posted January 25, 2003 I just try to stay away from oil as much as possible, but olive oil will suffice if needed.
Charlie-brm Posted January 25, 2003 Posted January 25, 2003 Economic history of Canola Rapeseed / Canola Varieties Much like I remember from way back, Canola was an Agriculture Canada answer to a need to give farmers out west a sustainable crop they could also make money with. Then the original market demand dropped out and they starting finding other things to do with it. Like in the 1970's offering tobacco farmers to grow peanuts instead. Then what do you do with all those peanuts? Get off that Canola oil man, before GW starts eyeballing the vast untapped reserves. It's grown in the U.S. too, but you guys can't seem to get enough of it. It's OK to tempt fate. Just don't drop your drawers and moon her.

Wewus432 Posted January 25, 2003 Author Posted January 25, 2003 I think you guys were using it to lubricate heavy machinery and then you got Americans to start eating it and jacked the price up.

SoundWrangler Posted January 25, 2003 Posted January 25, 2003 Rapeseed - huh huh huh. ...and another alarming (& widely used, & unhealthy) example of an industrial byproduct remanufactured into a vaguely foodlike substance: cottonseed oil. Not to mention Jello, of course. (Mmm, dehydrated & artificially-flavored boiled skin scum!)
realtrance Posted January 25, 2003 Posted January 25, 2003 Give me Mongolian barbecue over any of that crap any day. rt
