Does anyone own the apple ipod mp3

does anyone have the apple ipod mp3 player? I was thinking of buying the 10gb one, holds 2,000 songs. I have a problem with the non-replaceable battery though. If anyone has one, let me know what you think. Is it worth it? It's either the ipod or the Sony MiniDisk. Thanks.

Got on.....love it, though my battery is having issues., but I have n extended warranty. I have a 5 GB one. I owned a Sony mini-disc for about a day...Big dissappointment....transfers in real time suck. You need a firewire port to use an iPod too....Creative makes a new one called the ZEN that actually looks pretty cool, but I have yet to see one that beats the iPod in elegance.

I've got one. The battery is similar to the lithium-ion batteries in my Sony camcorder, and those have been working well for years. So far, no battery issues with the iPod. Tha ability to load up a bunch of diagnostic programs or even a bootable copy of the Mac OS (assuming you're a Mac user) for portable trouble shooting is a nice bonus.

If you're having battery issues, have you updated to the latest version of the iPod OS? I heard the latest fixes some problems with that. Anyhow- I just got one, it's great. Changed my music-listening life completely. I live in NYC and walk around with it when I'm out-and-about which is great, 'cuz that mass-transit and walking can get tedious sometimes. Then at home, I plug it into my monitor system and it's my 'music server.' Bring it up on a mixer channel and have it going along with my misc. computer sounds coming out. It's only off when I'm sleeping pretty much, and then it's charging. The interface is well-thought out enough that you can work the controls while it's in your pocket. Mine's a 10 gig, and I've got around 2000 songs on it right now. 10 CDs of classical 'hits', 10 CDs of country 'hits', box sets of Earth Wind & Fire,Henry Mancini, Curtis Mayfield; all the studio Beatles, Metallica, Zeppelin, Sabbath, Hendrix, and Stones. A ton of R&B and salsa and bossa nova and all the latest stuff too. The best thing about it is shuffle play mode, because once it plays something it knocks it off the list and it won't come back again. And then when you've got 200 CDs worth of tunes in there, it's like a radio station that only plays good stuff. The Holy Grail of music listening! Anyhow, hell yeah, get one. Moving stuff to it, handling tags, and deleting things through iTunes couldn't be easier. You can also move your Palm Desktop contact list onto it, though I use my phone for that.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. If I get one it would be for PC. One question about the battery. They say it is not replaceable, and has the lifespan of about 500 charges. So if you charge it every day to full capacity it only lasts for a little over a year. However, if you charge it once a week it would probably last 8-10 years. How many times a week do you guys charge your unit? Once you can't charge the battery anymore, then the unit is essentially garbage. It becomes a disposable unit. Not unless Apple starts to offer a replaceable battery in the near future. If I can get 3 good years out of this thing, I'll be extremely happy. Thanks again.

I have one of the original 5Gb iPods. No battery or mechanical issues. It's one of the best designed products ever made, not to mention a heck of a lot of fun. :thu:

I dunno what the rating for charges is, but it actually is replaceable if it ever were to be an issue. The battery is made by Sony. You can get another one and swap it out if you were so inclined. This info's on one of the iPod sites, there are a couple of 'em. Really, though, I wouldn't worry about it. I've got a cell phone with a lithium ion battery that I've charged daily for 3 years and the battery's still fine. The problem on this phone is now the contacts with the charger have crapped out. The Firewire connectors on the iPod seem to be ruggedly built, so i don't see mechanical failure happening..
