LiveMusic Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 A friend told me yesterday there was something on the news about a new copy-proof CD technology. Anyone know anything about it? > > > [ Live! ] < < <
LiveMusic Posted January 24, 2003 Author Posted January 24, 2003 I found this link about it. On a side note, how in the world does an article like that get listed in the search engines so fast? I guess because it's about Microsoft. > > > [ Live! ] < < <

timobrien Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 Took me about a minute to figure out how to break the copy protection on a Kid Rock CD I legitimately bought.... plugged a CD player into my mixer board and played the CD while recording on my computer. MP3'd just fine, thank you, with quality good enough for an MP3. All they're doing is lining the pockets of somebody's nephew who is selling the copy protection schemes and jacking up the prices to the consumer. The big question now is how hard is it going to be to make music once Intel and Microsoft build locks into PC hardware and Windows. Will we have to be audited and pay licenses as "content creators" to have the locks opened on OUR systems????? I'm keeping my copy of Win98SE just in case....
Addix Metzatricity Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 Why would anyone want to steal a Kid Rock CD anyway? "Bass isn't just for breakfast anymore..." http://www.mp3.com/Addix_Metzatricity
aeon Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 Hmm. I put the new copy-proof CD in my CD player. I play it and the data comes streaming from my optical output into my computer. I encode the data. I wonder how this new FUD is gonna stop me from doing so. Go tell someone you love that you love them.

timobrien Posted January 24, 2003 Posted January 24, 2003 ^ I'll agree with that one, too!! That's why the "big boys" haven't put up a pay-per-song download system up yet..... 9 out of every 10 songs (or more) per CD have the suck-knob turned up way too high!
