1.83 vs. 2.0 (computer music question)

In the new Macbook Pros, how huge would the difference be between the 1.83 dual and the 2.0? I mean, the 2.0 is obviously faster...but how much is the difference? Is it really a $500 difference?

 

I primarily use Ableton Live for recording and performing.

 

Either one is going to be a quantum leap forward from my iBook 933! :D I just wanted some informed opinions.

So you are paying $500 for an extra half gig of memory and a slightly larger hard disc. And a faster vidieo which isn't very important for audio.

 

I'd look seriously at whether you can add an extra 512M of memory to the cheap one and how much it will cost you. That's the most significant difference between these two machines for what you want to do.

 

BTW, has your software (Ableton) been ported yet? If not its going to run in emulation mode, which is likely to be slowish.

I come to this from a PC perspective but I can do so because they are using Intel chips now :thu:

 

The diffrence of clock speed between the two chips doesn't matter much (don't pay too much more for such a small difrence in clock speed), they both have the same amount of cache, I'd go with the cheaper laptop if your basing the decision on the Cpu(yes I know what I said was what I intended too).

I wish I had that video in my laptop though!
