D_dup3 Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 This story is from the Associated Press (though I haven't found it on their site, yet). It reminds me of Pete Townshend's idea for a similar project (parts appeared on Who's Next; for example the synth intro to "Baba O'Reilly" is based on physical measurements that Pete programmed into a synth). Two doctors & a French-born composer in Madrid have translated the DNA code into music. A team of scientists at Madrid's Ramon y Cajal Hospital (including Dr. Aurora Sanchez Sousa & composer Richard Krull) have recorded a 10 tune CD called Genoma Music, due out in February, based on permutations of the DNA code. DNA has 4 basic components. They equated these 4 entities with musical pitches (matching the [1-2-5-6] of a major scale) & sequenced those in various ways matching the strings of information in genes.. Played as that, the sequences sounded rudimentary so Krull used them as bass lines to underpin melodies composed by himself & Sousa. In general, the music is an easy-listening/New Age sound. One piece is based on Connexin 26, a human gene that causes deafness when it mutates. :freak: More when I find a link! Still haven't found an audio site but if you check here you'll get a more detailed reprt & (by clicking "sample" at that site see a score of one piece.

whitefang Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 It's bad enough to know that murderers, rapists, pedophiles, thieves, adulterers, deviates, perverts and other abberations permeate the human species. Now, you tell us our DNA sounds like new age music! Do you LIKE pissing in my cornflakes, or WHAT? Whitefang I started out with NOTHING...and I still have most of it left!
