Dick Ward MP Hall of Fame
Okay, so I go on the roland site today to order my Fantom-XR's Operating System upgrade, and I see on there... "Effects Expansion Board (ITEM# VS8F-1) $49.95" with no further explanation. Anyone know what this is? Secondly, I'm looking to buy my first expansion for the Fantom in 2-3 weeks here (next paycheck is reserved for my new keyboard amp) and I'm really debating which to get. I need a better piano, but do I really need an expansion card dedicated solely to pianos? Does anyone have experience with either the string or orchestral cards, or maybe both? I'd love to hear some opinions. Martin Hines
Good question. The VS8F-3 is an effects expansion board for Roland V-Studio Hard Disk Recorders http://www.zzounds.com/item--ROLVS8F3 http://www.rolandus.com/products/details.asp?catid=12&subcatid=84&prodid=VS8F%2D3 Perhaps the VS8F-1 is a new product that allows one to add effects to the Fantom X/XR? If so, it will appear at Winter NAMM.

Does anyone have experience with either the string or orchestral cards, or maybe both? I'd love to hear some opinions From what I've heard from the people who own different Roland boards and have used or heard them, they have told me the same thing. None of the expansion sounds, sound better than the sounds on the Fantom X. Personally I've never heard them, but I do trust the opinion of two of the people who shared this with me. Dick Ward MP Hall of Fame
Ah, that's a bummer. I love my JV piano, but it just lacks the depth that the fantom sounds have. when I play it, it feels cheap, lol:p "...Keytar in a heavy metal band is nothing more than window dressing" - Sven Golly Cursed Eternity - My Band Dick Ward - My Me
Clavinovaguyusa
The VS8F-1 was an expansion board an early VS unit the VS-880.
midinut
OT - Chris, you do realize we all got together and voted. Your sentence has been hereby reduced and lifted. You may now feel free to change your sig. But if Mr. Vocoder shows up again we may need you to unleash a pit bull on his/her ass. Fair enough? Good to see you around and in a little better spirits too! Happy New Year brother!
