jablues
Hi all, I´m a newb in this forum and I need some help with my next purchase. I´m a bass player who recently bought a roland PK-5 and I just would like to know an affordable sound module with good sounds. I´m interested in synth pads sounds, arppegiators and organ sounds. Thank you very much guys !

niacin
Help us out here. What do you mean by affordable? Otherwise just buy a Kurzweil 2600 rack and be done with it. daBowsa
Roland JV-1010, JV-1080, JV-2080 Kurzweil ME-61 Alesis QSR Each have their own strengths and weaknesses. If you have specific questions about these or any other modules, we'd be happy to help.
jablues
Thank you very much guys and excuse my English, I just tried to say "something not too expensive".
daBowsa
Haha - no, your english is fine. "Affordable" and "something not too expensive" mean the same thing. What niacin is wondering is "How much money do you consider 'affordable'?" For example, what is the most money you're looking to spend?
The Captain
"I´m interested in synth pads sounds, arppegiators and organ sounds." my 2 cents: Roland JV series are good all-arounders (eg. JV-1010 and up). For something really unique, search for a Korg Wavestation Rack. VERY unique synth pads/sounds and decent organ sounds. Arppegiator - some functionality. Came in three models: Wavestation SR: Single rack space - most modern, but hardest to navigate menu Wavestation EX: 2 rack space with XLR ins/out for external processing. Wavestation: 2 rack space (no XLR).
marino
Good advice from everybody. I'd second the Kurzweil ME-1; lots of good sounds, ready to go. I have one myself.

Clavinovaguyusa
The price of used XV-5080s is coming down. I picked up my first one for a bunch, and my second one for $800 on ebay in January of 2005. Most of the JV modules and the XV-2020, XV5050 and XV3080 can be purchased for less than $800. If you end up with an XV series unit you might also consider SRX-3 studio, and SRX-07 ultimate keys expansion modules.
g.
Wavestations rule. Even the SR, one you have editing software. In fact for its day the amount of storage there is pretty spiffy too. But skip right past the vocoder imitations. .
niacin
EMU Proteus 2000 or same series module with B3 rom and one or more of Beat Garden/Vintage/X-Lead/Techno roms for the pads. And you have more simultaneous arpeggiators than I can count. No longer manufactured - check ebay. Note the ROMs now go for rather high prices, but really not much more than you're gonna pay for Roland expansion boards anyway.
