Midi Keyboard Controller Suggestions

EscapeRocks

Recommended Posts

Hey all......

I need suggestions. Is there a 61 key controller out there that can do the following: send bank and patch change to my rig? I'd like to to be able to change the patch on my two sound modules in the rack, and also change the patch on my main keyboard (Yamaha S08). It's getting "hairy" trying to get all the patches changed between songs at gigs when I have to change three devices separately.

Something like the Roland A-33???

I'm new to dedicated controllers, but not new to MIDI. I just odn't know what's out there, and wanted to hear what you all think.

EDITED TO ADD: do any controller save "patches" so when I call up a patch on the controller it can send the appropriate info to teh external devices?

Thanks,

David

I'd say swap your S08 for an S90 or S90ES (assuming the S08 does not have Master Mode). Master Mode does everything you need and more. It allows you to set up Master patches with internal and external pointers, zone setups, controller setup, patch changes and much more. I love this feature on my S90.

I believe the A-33 can send 2 program/patch change messages, 1 for each layer (A and B). These layers can be split or layered.

Not the easiest controller to work with, regardless.

Does the S80 have the Master Mode? S08 to S90ES is a significant jump in price. The S90's can be had on the cheap these days if you find a GC with a couple extra in-stock.
