CYLON VOCODER
I've met him over 23 years ago at Yavapai on 11/05/82. Of course he demonstrated a vocoder for the audience!!
eric
So tell us more about it. What kind of music does he play and what does it mean to "Do it Live" at Walt Disney World. I checked Google and this is all I could find. http://www.wish-bone.com/images/lettuce/img_iceberg.jpg Regards, Eric

Dave Bryce
I saw Michael play at Walt Disney World in the late '70s. All I remember was that I really enjoyed his playing and his material, and that I was amazed to see a multikeyboardist at Disney World. dB ==> David Bryce Music • Funky Young Monks <== Affiliations: Cloud Microphones • Music Player Network
The Real MC
He's an amazing player but he asks $20 for a damn CD online!
Stephen Fortner
Wow... that brings back memories. I also saw him at Disney World in FL. Musta been when I was 8 or 9 that mom took me... which woulda been the late 70's too. There's a small chance we were in the same audience, dB! I was mesmerized, and can remember thinking "Someday, I want a job that involves being surrounded by electronic keyboards." (Note to self: Careful what you ask for.) He was also very funny, making faces as he played and conveying that he didn't take himself too seriously. I believe he was written up in Keyboard back in the day, but I forget the issue. The Real MC
I'd like to know which issue, because I've been getting KM since '78 up until recently and have a few back issues prior to '78, and I don't recall an interview with Michael Iceberg. That'd be interesting reading.
Mark Vail
Never caught Iceberg's act live, but believe he may have appeared on PBS somewhere along the line. Jim Aikin reviewed his "Iceberg Does It Live" album in the Oct. '79 issue.
Bridog6996
I'm not sure I get his whole schtick. Is his real name Iceberg, or does that come from the fact that his gear sits in a pyramid-looking thingy that's supposed to be an "iceberg?" And yeah, $20 for a cd? Forget about that. And oh yeah, Michael Iceberg: he was indeed a big deal at Disney. And I may be remembering this wrong, but I think he had some involvement with Akai. eric
Here's the text from the short review by Jim Aikin in the Oct '79 KB Mag: MICHAEL ICEBERG, "ICEBERG DOES IT LIVE." If you're looking for schlocky entertainment, there may not be a better place than Disney World, where (amid other delights) Michael Iceberg packs 'em in at the Coca-Cola Pavilion with his one-man multi-keyboard show. In between musical numbers, which include snatches of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," "Layla," "The William Tell Overture," and the Star Wars theme, Iceberg enthuses about his monstrous rig, demonstrating Munchkin synthesizer sounds and a Chamberlin outfitted with tapes of dogs, pigs, chickens, cows, a train whistle, a man belching, and so on. Producing such complex arrangements live sounds like it ought to require eight arms and legs - Iceberg is a virtuoso performer, and he is clearly having fun and communicating it to his audience. It's all kind of silly, but there's room in the world for silliness. Other noteworthy articles from this issue include a cover story on George Duke, Seth Justman, John Harmon and the 1979 NAMM Report. Darren Landrum
It's too bad, too, because I'd not heard of this Michael Iceberg guy, and yet something about him seems terribly familiar. Maybe I have heard of him before, a long, long time ago in the mists of my memory. Darren Landrum
Darren Landrum
Methinks he misunderstood what Stephen was trying to tell him about starting multiple threads on closely related subjects. Too many threads about vocoders, yes, but this one was unique and stood apart. Darren Landrum
Bridog6996
A thread like this is not a problem. It's the 1,001 threads about vocoders and their various permutations that annoys me. Each random thought does not deserve its own thread. Elvis and vocoders? Please..... My YouTube Channel

Ya think? Hey Sven.. what's your favorite use of a vocoder in an ambient electronica song? what's your favorite use of a vocoder in a country song? Do you think Lincoln would have used a vocoder?
