jdizil
I purchased a korg wavestation thinking it was one thing and BBBOOOOYYYYYYYYYY was it another. It had some cool sounds on it but I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a soundcard with some other sounds on it. What I'm generaly looking for is a regular piano sound, maybe some cool drawbar or hammond b3 organ sounds and maybe the exact sound or something similar to the fender rhodes or wurlitzer sound something mellow like that. If anyone can help to point me to where I could go, please help. Also, I've been looking around on the internet for sounds and alot of them are on cd. Is that only for if you have your keyboard hooked to the computer?
linwood
I've got a wavestation, but wouldn't really use it for what you're trying to use it for. Now, that doesn't mean it can't be used for the meat and potatoes stuff. Try kidnepro. He'll have some patches for it.
K K
Yep, the pianos/organs dept is definitely not the Wavestation's speciality. The best acoustic piano sound for the Wavestation is the WSC-1S ROM card set. It's "crispy", brighter and more dynamic than the standard ROM piano sample. But it was created in 1990 and sounds likewise. You could certainly create EP sounds "à la FM", but don't expect anything really close to a Rhodes sound. On the other hand, I could create pretty acceptable Hammond presets using imaginative programming (everything close to sine waves can do) and some of the great internal effects available (overdrive, rotary speaker, spring reverb emulator, etc.). Of course, these again aren't the true strengths of this incredible synth.
DafDuc
I have one. I wouldn't use it for that. I played in an 8 piece horn band. We would often get bored. So...three words: "Tower of Polka." - Calumet
midinut
The first Wavestation IIRC didn't have "meat and potato" sounds. The next gen Wavestation EX had extra samples and covered pianos and organss fairly well (for its time). I can't remember for sure but I think a standard Wavestation could be upgraded to an EX (if you can find an upgrade anywhere). The Wavestation AD was the 2 space rack version that had audio ins for using the effects and vocoder with external instruments. The Wavestation SR was the single rack version with all the sounds from stock/AD/EX included but was damn near impossible to program without an editor/librarian of some sort. Hope this helps! I doubt that you'd be able to find a kit anywhere (since this stuff happened over a decade ago!), but who knows what you might find at a garage sale... :-) - Dan Dan Phillips Manager of Product Development, Korg R&D
Synthoid
If you want the "ultimate Wavestation," buy the Korg Legacy Digital Edition. It comes with both the M1 and the Wavestation softsynths--including all the original and optional sound cards. When an eel hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's a Moray.
