eric
DLS223 is a newer version of the Dynacord CLS222. The DLS is halfway decent, but not as authentic of a Leslie sim as the CLS. The DLS is more like a thick chorused/phaser sound vs. a rotating drum type sound. Why do you ask? Are you finding a used one for a good price? It's a pretty neat unit, with MIDI control features and so forth, but I'm not sure how useful it would be today. 10 years ago it would improve the sound of an old school CX3 or XB2, but the DLS can't touch any of the modern clone Leslie sims. JMcS
I think DLS Effects is a different company: http://www.dlseffects.com/index.php They just recently launched the RotoSim: http://www.dlseffects.com/roto_sim.php There are samples using both a B3 clone and guitar on their website: http://www.dlseffects.com/sounds.php
eric
I thought the bloke was talking about the Dynacord DLS223, but he did not really give us much to go on with his postings. Nu2, what's up? Regards, Eric
Nu2Keys
I'm using an older Korg CX3 and so far the internal Leslie effect. My goal is to improve my sound, and I know that for the forseeable future I won't be able to carry a real Leslie, so I was thinking about a pedal. Maybe my post should have been "What is the best Leslie sim in a pedal?" The other possibility, probably sometime later, would be the Motion Sound top horn to be used with a bass guitar amp for the lows.
JMcS
You might consider one of these: http://www.polytoneamps.com/Taurus%20Elite.htm Also, Polytone used to make a stand alone RS Modulator pedal. In fact one was up on eBay last week. I bid on it to have an extra, but was outbid. There is an older Polytone amp with an RS Modulator built in on eBay now. I've listened to the Korg CX-3 and the old Korg pedal, to me the Polytone sounds much better. Also, Taurus Elites and older versions come up now and then. The amps sound great as well. They do very well on the low frequencies so pedals sound great. The upper and lower "rotors" have slightly different ramp up/down speeds. The fast and slow speeds are adjustable although in tandem so that as you turn the speed knob up, both speeds increase. They don't have the "phasey" sound that other rotary sims have. You might also consider the Leslie 2101 / 21 System. http://www.hammondorganco.com/product_set4.htm Good Luck.
The Real MC
If you want a rotary sim, the unchallenged king is the Dynacord CLS222. I used a Hammond Porta-B/Leslie 760 for years. When I bought my XK-3 and plugged in my CLS222, it nailed the sound dead on. I've tried other sims - H&K, Korg, Voce, internal sims in XK-3, CX-3, VK-8, etc. Many sims do not get the right combination/depth of phase modulation, frequency modulation, and amplitude modulation which is a hard balance to get right. And the balance is different between fast and slow speeds. Not to mention that a real Leslie does not have a flat frequency response. The XK-3 internal sim came damn close on the animation but missed the frequency response. Only the CLS222 nails a Leslie.

However, as you may know, the CLS222 is nearly impossible to find. In addition, the last one I saw on eBay went for $610.00, which is pretty pricey. Would you happen to know any other possible sources for it, or would you have a SECOND favorite Leslie sim that is still readily available? The Real MC
Welcome to capitalism - they're hard to find and expensive because you get what you pay for. I don't know what other resources to find them other than Craiglists or dealers of used gear. I can't give you a second best sim because I haven't heard any that are as good as the CLS222. Leslies are extremely difficult to simulate with accuracy.

Are you saying that if I can't carry a real Leslie around and I can't find a CLS222 that I am just as well off with the Leslie sim in my CX3 as any other Leslie sim pedal that you have tried? What about the Motion Sound horn? They are readily available and about the same price as the CLS222!
Phred
I have the MS horn and LOVE it. My biggest complaint is volume matching the horn with the lows. I tend to fiddle with that a lot during practise... I'm just saying', everyone that confuses correlation with causation eventually ends up dead.
