jimmymio
I know there was a hard vs. soft shell discussion here recently. My personal needs put me firmly in the hard camp. I just ordered an S90ES and need a case. My last case (Anvil), lasted 15 years so it's been awhile since I purchased one. The store that sold me the KB says he can get cases from L M Engineering. Anyplace else come to mind? Any online dealers that you could recommend? Much appreciated, JP 1935 Mason & Hamlin Model A Korg Kronos 2 73 Nord Electro 6D 61 Yam S90ES Rhodes Stage 73 (1972)

Tonysounds
the Gator Case is very nice and easier to deal with than the Motifator case which I had for my Motif 8 (and which had finally after 2 world tours and hundreds of stateside trailer gigs) had kind of disintegrated. It's easier on your car's interior too. ashbysolutions.com is a great place for cases and other unusual midi items, and he gives a great price. (I'm an SKB fan, but recently came to purchase the Gator, and have been very happy with it). The Motif 8 and S90es fit snugly into the 88 case, with no need for the "strap". Tonysounds
OH, I also have a never-used RnR flight case for the Motif 8 with 2" of foam on the inside that will work for the S90es as well. $200 plus shipping, and it was never used. Comes with casters on one end. In gray slate finish. It's a touring grade ATA, much better built than Anvil, of which I own a few. jimmymio
Thanks for the tips guys. Although I satisfactorily use SKB cases for a mixer, an amp rack and a utility case, I want an old school, anvil type case for my KB. And I want one that is no larger than necessary so I really need one made custom for the S90ES. Can anyone recommend someone who makes cases for specific keyboards or else makes custom ones? Garrafon
Try the Calzone company in Bridgeport CT. They make really nice, tough cases. They make custom as well.
jimmymio
Yeah, I've owned a Calzone case before and it was great. FWIW, they now own Anvil so being a California resident they would have Anvil make the case. Looking into it further. Thanks, JP 1935 Mason & Hamlin Model A Korg Kronos 2 73 Nord Electro 6D 61 Yam S90ES Rhodes Stage 73 (1972)
jimmymio
Just direct ordered an Anvil/Calzone case for the S90ES. Ball corners, recessed hardware etc. FWIW it cost $369 plus tax and shipping. Thanks for all your suggestions! eric
Congrats - I sure hope you got wheels for it, because you're going to need them! Call back right away and get them if you did not! Regards, Eric
jimmymio
No I did not order wheels because I can't remember the last time I actually picked up my KB case. I always use either a stand up dolly or a piano dolly to move all of my gear. But I did call back and discovered for an additional $25 they could make the case out of polyurethane instead of 1/4" ply and bring the weight down to a svelt 50lbs. Ouch! SilverDragonSoun
eBay also has some good deals if you are ok with going that route. I've had success with getting new things on their for cheaper than any advertised price I've seen. Steve Force
Check out Road Ready cases. Many stores carry them (approx: $250USD for a 61 keyboard.) WELL worth the investment, IMO. You know i did look there and I only saw one manufacturer that had a case for every kb imagineable except mine, probably because it's so new. The prices were very cheap and from what I could gather so was the quality. The downside is the case is much bigger than I need and for the same $ I'm having one made that exactly fits my KB. jimmymio
Well they said they've been using this for years w/out a problem. They said they can't use it in wide swaths but for a picee 18" across it works great. I'm surprised. Those plastic cases are the BIGGEST rip off known to musicians. Over priced, and they lose their shape after using them for any period of time. I'd avoid those cases. Mike T.
