Duby
Hi, I would like to play like Jon Lord... No, really...I would like to play Hush but I am having problems with sound (tapping and solo). Could you please tell me what are (were) his drawbars settings in Hush?! Percusion? Overdrive? Thank you very much! Duby
mate stubb
Not to make light of your question, but Hush is a tune that is deceptively hard to play well. It requires facility with several Hammond techniques: conga slapping, smears and slides, and a general ease with playing the organ as a funky rhythm instrument. If you have those mastered, then worry about the little stuff (settings): no percussion, lots of overdrive, C3 vibrato on the top manual, none on the bottom. Top manual starts on 888844200 or something equally full bodied but mellow. Bottom manual starts on a one octave up version of that: 008888044. For the solo, have prepared on both manuals an identical bright registration, say something like 888666888. Use the main bottom manual setting for funky slaps, smears and punctuation stuff in the verse between the main VII/IV chord stabs done on the main top manual registration. Use the bright top registration for chorus licks after the vocals. For the organ solo, start with bright registration on the top manual, main setting on the bottom. Bottom manual takes over the VII/IV stabs in the left hand while the right hand solos. Later in the solo for the machine gun chord climbs, switch bottom manual to identical solo registration, and alternate hands on both manuals playing the identical chords very fast and choppy. When you have mastered that and are feeling pretty good about things, then understand that Jon was fast enough to do all that with one hand. Doh! Hope this at least gets you started.
