VK8M U and L Part

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have Roland VK-8M and I don t know how to play (set) upper and lower parts on single keyboard with it? Could I do that with VK-8M or I need two keyboards?

I have set MIDI channels (1 for upper and 3 for lower) on my keyboard but I can play only upper part (dual button on keyboard is turned on)...

Thank you!

Duby:

Channel 1 is for upper, channel 2 is for lower... channel 3 is for pedals.

What keyboard are you using to control the VK8M? It sounds as though you're actually layering both channels, so you're in fact playing BOTH sounds at the same time.

Make sure you've SPLIT the keyboard that you're using, and that it actually is transmitting on two different MIDI channels. You can do this by zeroing the drawbars for all 3 parts, then bring up one part, play the full range of your keyboard, and see what notes sound. Repeat that for each part, and you'll be able to determine whether in fact your keyboard is transmitting on two different channels. My guess is, because you refer to a 'dual button', your keyboard doesn't transmit on two channels, but only receives on two (or more) channels.

Cheers,

SG

OK, but VK-8M has channel 2 for pedals and channel 3 for Lower part.

Whoops, you're right. Sorry, I've reset my VK8 with Pedal and Lower switched in my rig. :o

Well, not sure about the rest of your post, if it's sarcasm, or I'm misreading it, but the RS9 in Dual mode is able to transmit on two different channels; you do realize, however, that Dual mode layers both sounds across the entire range of the keyboard? Therefore, it is transmitting on both MIDI channels across the entire keyboard?

This according to the RS9 manual available from the Roland US website.

Not sure what you're doing wrong, but it should work. Good luck.

SG

Sorry on my English... :o

It was my (stupid) mistake because my keyboard was in Dual mode and not in Split mode... :o

You helped me to solve my problem. I wrote that on previos post:
