Dick Ward MP Hall of Fame
You read the title. The 3.5 hr drive was worth it. Thanks to everyone who reccomended the place in my "Is there anywhere better than Guitar Center" thread. Got there an hour before closing time, and damn was it nice. Helpful staff, nice setup, everything they had set up worked (unlike certain music stores). Very cool. Again, thanks very much guys, I got to play a lot of boards that I'd only read about and I must say, I enjoyed it quite a bit. Whittling down my list of boards that I need to try out. Definately buying from them if I get a new board (as opposed to used I mean) I highly reccomend the trip. Not a huge showroom, but good variety and a staff that knows what's up. Dick Ward MP Hall of Fame
Alright, I was gonna post a 'this is the gear I'm thinking about getting' thread, but I've done tons of those already. Let me just say that I spent 45 of my 60 minutes with the Dave Smith Poly Evolver and I was lovin' it. Expensive, but seems worth it. RABid
I went a few years ago. It threw me when I went in, saw nothing but a receptionist at the front, and she asked if I had an appointment. The people were nice and a salesman came out to take care of me. They were all very nice but I could not help but think I was out of place. I tried an Access Virus KC and a few other keyboards and walked out with a Novation KSR. I'm glad I went, but it was strange and I have not considered going back. By the way, it was an overnight trip for me. Southeast Kentucky to Northern Indiana. Robert This post edited for speling. Dick Ward MP Hall of Fame
SE Michigan here. Yeah, throws you for a loop doesn't it? I like it though. Very personal treatment. I just kinda walked right into the showroom and played the boards then a guy came out and got my info and showed me around. I dig it, made me feel like a bigshot, lol. Especially with how limited my options are, I'll be back I'm sure. Ben One
Glad you had a good experience! It sounds as if they have expanded their showroom in recent years. Eddie Jobson Tribute Projects
ITGITC
I've always thought Sweetwater was a first-class operation. They're the go-to folks when I need anything Kurzweil. DafDuc
A PEK would really be a nice fit for your gig, Dick. Cool that there's a place to try stuff out like that, even though I'm another hour farther away than you are... I played in an 8 piece horn band. We would often get bored. Dick Ward MP Hall of Fame
How sweet would that thing look? I'd love that monster on stage, especially controlled by the keytar. Ooh... dials and buttons and glowy lights. I love the blue glow from the mod and pitch wheels. Ooh, and then I'll have a reason to buy one of those controllers with way too many dials! Exciting stuff! Also, the wood grain is just neat.
