omegastar
Hi.. Anybody knows if the piano sound on RD 700 (not SX) are the same on A90ex or better? I have an A90ex and i like the piano sound as the action.. but i´ve found a RD700 in the same price range of my A90ex.. anybody knows if its a good deal? eric
Nah, they are a bit different and you might like the A90EX piano better, especially if you are used to it. The A90EX pianos are essentially the same as the RD600 pianos (might not be as many choices, but same sampling session and sound character, from what I understand). I used an RD600 for about 5 years and I got the RD700 (original, not the SX model) when it first came out around 2002. I found the acoustic pianos in the RD700 to be not as pleasing to me as the RD600. They were boxier sounding with less sustain and they also did not sound as good running in mono as the RD600 pianos. I ended up selling the RD700 and keeping the RD600 until I ultimately traded up to the Yamaha S90. Now if you wanted to compare the RD700SX pianos vs. the A90EX, I expect you would see quite a bit of improvement. I don't know of much great reason to swap an A90EX for an RD700. The A90 has better controller implementation, for one thing. The RD700 may have more sounds and a few added features (e.g. polyphony, arpeggiator), but overall I would probably keep the A90EX and consider adding a module if you just want more sounds. My $.02. omegastar
Thanks Eric.. what about your S90.. i have never seen one.. but i´v read disapointing reviews about it´s acoustic pianos..?
eric
The S90 piano was a bit of an improvement over the RD600, but not significant. I did not buy the S90 for its piano sound alone. It is a perfectly acceptable sound for my uses (live gig with 10-piece band) and the main selling points of the S90 to me included its extensive synth section, great-sounding ROM set, stellar keyboard action with aftertouch, killer MIDI master features and expansion capabilities. It's a deep performance keyboard and I really like it. Regards, Eric
omegastar
intersting.. maybe i shoul check the S90 too.. and the Acoustic Piano PLG expansion cards, does it sound better than the factory piano?
BOPBEEPER
If youre playing live in a non solo situation the PLG Ap150 is an improvement on the S90 AP but it has an annoying artifact like a ringing sound especialy when heard through headphones and for solo recordings is next to useless. You cant get rid of this even with drastic high EQ cuts. Maybe picking up a Kurzwiel ME 1 module (off E-bay) would be a good partner for the A90. I are an *******(CENSORED) too.
