MIDIdiot
howdy, I own a digital piano, Roland FP1, bought it in '96 or thereabouts. It's a slab that I put on a stand and plug into an amp. At the time I recall there was an option to by a stand that had speakers incorporated underneath it. This gave it a nice "finished look" rather than an on stage type keyboard. I am now thinking I would like my unit to have some "living room" appeal and would like to find this speaker/stand. Does anyone know what I'm talking about it and how I can get one? Thanks. Very much IntheDark these days...
ITGITC
http://www.americanmusical.com/images/d/p16953d.jpg Well, I Googled it and came up with nothing except the image above. I can understand living room appeal and keeping the wife happy. But having the speakers "incorporated underneath it" can't be a good thing. What you want is to have your monitors at ear-level; not playing to your knees. Again, I understand your plight. I also know that many domestic disputes have begun when one spouse (usually the one with the Y chromosome) wants to put his keyboard equipment in the living room instead of the stage or the studio where it belongs. In the meantime, the other spouse (usually the LARGER of the two and the one with the two X chromosomes) ends up beating the KRAP outta the muso because she said before the marriage was ever consummated that HER LIVING ROOM (you know... that area of one's home neatly cordoned off behind the velvet roap) was OFF-LIMITS and he and his friends should not / could not / will not even GLANCE into it for fear that their eyes will be set ablaze will still perched inside the head. http://db5.fotocommunity.de/52/.thumbs/thumb_3295352.jpg Ummmmm, InDaDark, I'd like to help yous, but you're on your own. Sven Golly
For shame, Tom... what our friend needs is constructive help in solving this problem. Don't burden him with your past experiences. You should advise him to give his significant other a choice: a couple of unobtrusive speakers for the piano (perhaps wall-mounted, either on or in, and coloured to match the decor, as is done by a number of home theater providers), or tell her he's taken up organ playing, and wants to put this in the living room instead of the piano: http://www.organhouse.com/images/hamrmb3leslies.jpg Cheers, SG
ITGITC
In North Carolina, the spouse gets half. Perhaps things are different in Canada. OTOH, what a GREAT SETUP, eh? I'll bet that organ ROCKS after a few shots of Scotch. Is that YOUR setup, Sven? You ROCK man! Invite me over one Saturday night. I'd love to hear you crank up those dual Leslies. Whoever owns that setup is divorced... or will be. Sowwy. signed, Chicken Well, I must admit, is there anything uglier than a kb stand, amp, cables dangling around... Now that I googled it too, it seems this FPS1 is available nowhere at all! Too bad, the last price I am seeing was a measely $
Garrafon
Wouldn't a nice bright red Electro fit in with any decor? What spouse wouldn't love that? I might even suggest three of them. On a more serious level, you could build a nice wooden cabinet for your instrument that would fit the decor of the room in which it will reside. Somewhere in here is a picture of Paul McCartney with a digital piano inside a "fake" piano cabinet. You could do something similar, albeit on a smaller scale. Didn't they think that we were gonna try stupid stuff like this? OK, OK... I'll admit this to you if you promise not to tell the whole world: I, like millions of other brilliant people, purchased a pair of Large Advent Speakers in the walnut cabinet back in the mid/late seventies. I blew the tweeter many, many times playing DJ for parties in college. When the woofer finally dry-rotted, I had it replaced. I also had a compression driver and a horn put in the cabinet & ported the back. Frankly, it was MY attempt to put my DX7 in the living room with a nice-looking speaker to play through instead of a tolex-covered box. I did this to one cabinet with the understanding that if it sounded good, I would do it to the other. Needless to say, it sounded like KRAP. The treble was harsh. The bass rolled off at about 250 Hz. In short, it sucked wet diapers. So now it lives in my closet. The other Advent box is in the attic just in case I need some kindling to start a Halloween bonfire. Sheeeeeesh. You guys don't need no costumes. You're scaring me already.
