Hi I have bought a Roland 107e digital piano and was wondering if anyone know which headphones to buy for it....the RH50 OR RH200.

The piano is excellent so I would like to bring the best out from it...

Thanks

Chris

Chrisg,

Welcome to Keyboard Corner.

You need to do a search for 'Headphones'. In fact, this topic was recently discussed.

I like my AKG 240. However, there are lots of good headphones available and lots of opinions on who likes what.

Get something that sounds good to your ears and is also comfortable to wear for long periods of time.

Although the Sony headphones that come with a Sony Walkman are cheap, they are also very lightweight and don't sound too bad. I've used them on occassion without grumbling too much.

I used to have a pair of Fostex T120 headphones. Lots of studios use them for the musicians to hear themselves. They are cheap and sound OK, but I think there are better headphones for the money.

Finally, I used to own a pair of Koss Pro 4AA. These were the 'standard' for years and years. They've got great bass, but they are HEAVY.

Go to the store and try as many as you can. Pick the ones that sound the best to you, are lightweight and feel OK on your head, fit your budget, and are not super-fragile.

Also, there are folks who like wireless headphones. I'm sure they're fine, but my priority remains good sound. So, if two pair of headphones were equal in every way, but one was wireless, I'd go with the wireless. However, if the wireless model didn't sound as good as the wired one, I'd have to take the wired one.

Don't overbuy. Headphones don't last forever. Get a good pair. Use them for awhile. Then try another pair. If you record a few folks at one time in your home studio, you're going to need multiple pairs.

Good luck,

Tom

Chris, you don't have to use Roland headphones. Any brand will do.

Just be sure that you have the right plug: it's either 1/4" stereo or 1/8" stereo.

Oh, be sure that the volume on the Roland will drive the headphones. Most are OK these days, but if the impedance is too high, this can cause the phones not to play as loudly as you would like. (This is why AKG made two versions of their model K240. The K240S is rated at 55 ohms, while the K240M is rated at 600 ohms. You want the K240S. They are the newer model and they play louder.)
