bg
I'm curiuos about the Moog Lyra, a touch sensitve 3-osc minimoog-like synth featured on Brain Salad Surgery. Apparently more than one prototype was made, as Audities.org has one--supposedly Emerson's. I couldn't figure out how to view a picture of it at their site. But the Canatos Music Foundation also has a Lyra and a picture. You can't direct link to it, but it's item #71. Here's the link.
Dave The Rave
Don't know anything about the Moog Lyra bg, but I do know how to capture a picture from a website like that one (using SnagIt). Here ya go: http://www.jardini.com/mooglyra.jpg Enjoy, :DTR Cambrian Guitars
Odyssian
Wow, cool! Thanks for the pic, Dave. I can't access the site for some reason, so I've never seen that pic before. Are there any others (larger, perhaps?). If anyone wants to see video of Emerson playing the Lyra, check out the ELP Beyond the Begining DVD. There are a few shots of him playing it during Karn Evil 9.
bg
Thanks for the public service, Dave! That is the only picture I could find on the web. Notice the partially visible keyboard on the right. It's image #70 in the series. It's identified as a Moog Apollo, but I question that. It looks like the Polymoog Keyboard, pictured here. (Note, the Polymoog Keyboard is different than the regular Polymoog.) On image #70, can you make out what the scriped silk screen ID says? Whatever it says, it's not the same as the synthmuseum pic. I believe the real Apollo is pictured here.
bg
Odyssian, thanks for the tip. I just ordered the DVD. I can't wait to see Emerson play the Lyra and hear the filter respond to his touch. Such a trivial thing by today's standards, but that prototype was the only thing that could make that sound in 1973. BTW, I think Tocatta has the best examples of the Lyra's touch sensitivity. Odyssian
Oh cool - I'm sure you'll like the DVD. I had read once that there wasn't any video footage of live ELP in this time period. I'm glad they were wrong!
