Joachim P. Dyndale Posted January 11, 2003 Posted January 11, 2003 ...The Serial ATA hard disks! Anyone used one for audio yet? -Joachim Dyndale -------------------- Einstein: The difference between genius and stupidity is: Genius has limits My Blog...
not Cereal Posted January 11, 2003 Posted January 11, 2003 serial port? serial ports are so slow i dont think they would work at all for anything. or do you mean something different?
Joachim P. Dyndale Posted January 11, 2003 Author Posted January 11, 2003 NO! :) Serial ATA, it's gonna take over for normal ATA-133 hard discs. The protocol supports transfer rates of up to 600 MB/s. The current Seagate S-ATA drive is 150 MB/s. -Joachim Dyndale -------------------- Einstein: The difference between genius and stupidity is: Genius has limits My Blog...

Philip OKeefe Posted January 12, 2003 Posted January 12, 2003 Crossposting, tsk tsk tsk! :D I answered over on Roger's forum, but I'll answer here too... My new mobo (Asus A7N8X) has serial ATA capabilities, but I'm going to stick with standard EIDE's for now. Why? Because they're fast enough for my current needs, and I think I want to let the bugs get worked out (and there's probably going to be some) in the serial ATA's first - as well as let the prices drop a bit before I jump in. Since what I have now is fast enough for my HD recording needs, I see no need to jump in early - it's Craig's "I rule technology" idea at work. ;) But I do appreciate the small interface cables the serial ATA's use - they should definitely increase airflow inside the computer case, increasing cooling efficiency.
Joachim P. Dyndale Posted January 12, 2003 Author Posted January 12, 2003 OK, so I'll post the link here too... :) And here it is: Tom\'s Hardware Guide -Joachim Dyndale -------------------- Einstein: The difference between genius and stupidity is: Genius has limits My Blog...

Really.Them how come the Ata 100 WD JB 8mb's are benching out the Maxtor and Seagate 133's by a significant margin? I guess Tom doesn't read his own test results.Ata 133 means faster seek time, not trandfer rates, the cache on the Seagate and Maxtor is still 2 friggin mb. "A Robot Playing Trumpet Blows"
Joachim P. Dyndale Posted January 12, 2003 Author Posted January 12, 2003 Alndln: No, ATA-100 means that the interface has a total bandwidth of 100 MB/sec. ATA-133 has 133 MB/sec bandwidth. It has nothing to do with the speed of the HD's themselves.
