Another question: Do you have songs which you created only with your loops?

Plus some effects, FX etc of course. or some loops from commercial CDs/CD-roms are OK, too. But mainly only with your original loops. If you have some, I would really like to listen. It'd be fun if you tell us how you created your songs. Thanks!

Anyone? Have you created music with only your loops? I think that sometimes, limitaion makes great art..

Actually, I created an entire CD, called "Sexy World," with nothing but loops EXCEPT for vocals and most guitar solos. There are also about 10 "guest" loops, mostly from Dr. Walker. Several of the tunes have been released in various forms, mostly on compilations over in Europe. I've also posted a few of them on my web site. If you hurry you can catch one ("The Miami Beat") before it gets replaced by the next tune in the queue. A few people who have heard the individual songs have asked if the CD itself is ever going to appear as a single entity. Yes, but only after a few more tunes have "dribbled out" into the world. I'm doing this as a strategy to build interest -- I'm assuming that if people are exposed to the tunes and like them, they'll be more interested in buying the CD when it comes out. Or, it may appear only as a collection of downloadable singles...decisions, decisions.

If you look at my homepage the two songs there are created with a live, continuous loop, made with a Boomerang Phrase Sampler, which is kind of a different thing than you're talking about. I have written some partial songs assembling pre-recorded loops but not really happy with the results. For more info on the Boomerang and live looping check out the Looper\'s Delight website.

The previous project "www.DarlingNikkie.com" was created with a lot of sampled loops (from sample CDs) and bits, andmostly withou any live musicians.. Of course always Vocals - and plenty of them. Now we are less into samples , but we still program most of the stuff and use only a couple live musicians (Guitar / Violin etc...) HTH Danny

I have an instrumental piece called Vapor Trail at Sunrise that is just a few original loops of different lengths that drift out of sync.
You shouldn't chase after the past or pin your hopes on the future.

I have been working on a few loop-based tracks, but have not completed anything yet due to my Delta 1010 power supply dying the other week. As soon as the replacement arrives, I'll get the tracks done and post them on my web site. How I make my loops: First, I lay down a drum track at the bpm I want using either the AN200 or DX200's drum track only. I record each track several ways: 4 bars, 2 bars, reversed, change the pattern... I record everything into my PC using thr coax SPIDF on my 1010 into Soundforge 5. I then trim the audio so it make a perfect loop, test it in Acid and then play around more in SF. I make fade-ins, fade-outs, use some reverb... making seperate files for each. I will then assemble them in Acid play around with them until it "fits right". I then record whatever other tracks using the AN/DX, which is easy, no sequencing involved. I also love the sounds of my Proteus 2k/X-Lead, so I will sequence some loops thru Cubase 5.1 for whatever tickles my fancy. I also use PPG Wave, Rebirth, LM4, and pre-packaged loops for some stuff that I add in later. I try to use SF and Acid the most, with just the sequencing and VST FX in Cubase. It may be time consuming, but since every track is seperate, it make treatment a whole lot easier. If Cubase had the editing capability of Nuendo & Protools, then I would probably use it more. I also use my outboard equipment to treat tracks - Electrix boxes, BBE, Aural Exciter, Ineko...

Live 6, Battery 3, Project 5, Atmosphere, Albino 2, Minimoog V, Oddity, Nord 2X, Proteus 2K

***I can't play for sh*t, but I can sequence like a muthaf*ck*r***

OK, here's one - it's called Oolamalwalla, as an homage of sorts to Professor Longhair (whose style has absolutely nothing to do with this weird tune, :D which is a remake of a little something I did back in college.) This was done in BeOS, with a cool little drum machine on steroids called XRS. It's actually a sample player, that has the ability to use VST plugins and also has a TB-303 style softsynth bass module built in. (That's what the buzzy bassline is done with.) I started with the drums, which were from a set of 3 loops that I found somewhere on the web. I triggered a couple of minor additional samples, mainly the cymbal crashes, and then programmed the bass. (Technically they're looped - the song is programmed in several 2-bar sections that repeat as needed.) The high-pitched synth color is also done with the bass module, jacked up a few octaves. After I built the basics, I started recording rhythm guitar parts by jamming along with XRS & recording into BamBam, a nice little 2-track editor. After I got enough stuff, I set about chopping & choosing a few bits & sequencing them. (BTW - the guitar is my PRS through my J-Station, via s/pdif to the PC. m-o-u-s-e...) The lead guitar is also triggered, but the whole song is only in 2 parts: 1 from the start, 1 from the middle. So it's not looped, but rather it's a pair of samples. I could mix the whole thing in XRS and export it, but I instead chose to export each "instrument" by muting all the other tracks & doing an export of each, for mixing in another program called 3dmiX (one of the coolest BeOS audio programs ever!) so I could have some real-time control over placement & levels. BTW - Here\'s an image of the main mix window from 3dmiX, if you\'re curious. Finally, I mastered the whole thing with T-Racks for BeOS. I often find this program useful for it's EQ, since there really isn't yet a facility for EQ in any of the other BeOS audio apps around. (Hey - you're supposed to record it right going IN, aren't you?!?) I'll admit that the result is pretty compressed, and it probably isn't audiophile quality - but it was an entertaining little exercise.

Loops, oh man, I'm up to my ears in loops right now. I'm working on an audio-related Web application that's using about 1152 different loops. Lots of work, but fun stuff. I'll post a link when it's goes public.

Recently I did a remix of a demo theme for one software company. 90% of it are based on loops made from my playing (on synthesizers). I'd gladly provide a link here when (if) it would appear on their web site.

Here are 3 versions of the same song done with loops except for the lead guitars and vocal. These are my entries for the SSS mixfest happening on another thread. <>

Never one to miss an opportunity to SPAM my music, I shall oblige your request. This is a fairly straightforward drum'n'bass track made exclusively from loops that I created. I played all the instruments that you hear, including the drum kit. Click here. This one is a dopey-ass big beat song about waking up the entire neighborhood with your loud, obnoxious rock'n'roll music. It's comprised of all original loops. The drum loops were constructed by sampling single Bonham drum hits and arranging the beats from those samples. There's a fun drum break in the middle. Click here. Here's another drum'n'bass thing, inspired by life in the dirty city of downtown Oakland. Programmed drums, live bass, and oodles of looped guitar noodles. Keys, too. And a Nepenaroyka in the end section. Click here. That should keep you busy for a while, if it doesn't make you completely loopy. :freak: :D
