tnb Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003
Tommy Mottola--Sony Music's high-powered chairman and chief executive, the mastermind behind the careers of Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and Jennifer Lopez, among others, and the object of Jackson's much publicized ire last summer--has stepped down from his post effective immediately.
Wow! Look at that. Mariah, Celine and J-lo. Thanks for nothing Tommy. Long live Dan South!!!
Philip OKeefe Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 http://entertainment.msn.com/news/article.aspx?news=111604 Looks like he's going to start his own label too.
Jotown Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 I heard that he had to leave Sony because he was just too devilish. Jotown:) "It's all good: Except when it's Great"
Philip OKeefe Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 yeah, and I heard he wants to sign Michael and Mariah to the new label... ;)
Henchman Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 Add to that Kenny G, and Michael Bolton, and that's gonna be some kick-ass line-up. We're talking hip, cutting edge music, that all the kids will by. Yeehaw!!! Yeehaw!!!
Those artists were just as unhip then as they are now,but money/peer prussure still does some walking.I used to see Celine Dion in Montreal occasionally playing around when I used to gig there, and I remember saying to myself, this chick is hopeless, she'll never make it out of the province, and judging by her outdated suedo cutsey french material, she seems content not to.Someone with $$$ had other ideas.$$$ and peer pressure unfortunately still works.I wish Tommy all the worst. Salyphus Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 Er, Tommy who? That wouldn't be the ever lovin' Marv Ellis would it?

I'm not that big fan of her (my wife is, but that doesn't matter here). I just believe Celine is one of those artists who raised that high thanks to her talent first and foremost. Madonna, Spears and countless other similar a'la singing chicks surely wouldn't make it big without $$$$$. But not Celine. She's got the voice and actually can sing, imo. To make my point more clear: Bjork is a better artist than a singer. Celine is a better singer than an artist. Spearms, Madonna (+ ......) are not singers at all, nor are they artists by any means. So... who's that Mottola after all? :D I am back.

Alndln Posted January 11, 2003 Posted January 11, 2003 That's weird,AOL and FOX must have differen't sources because FOX just reported that Matola was fired and given less than 2 hrs to clean out his desk. www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,75046,00.html I love it! An unmusical person being fired by an unmusical company! :D It doesn't get much funnier! :D This is what they call "The Music buisness"! :D "A Robot Playing Trumpet Blows"

They are not spending that much money on bozos in order to make worse, more unhip music expecting you to buy *that*. Well, maybe a few of the sheep. No, instead it is to give contrast to their other "highly mediocre" artists, so they seem more attractive in comparison. See?
