How much polyphony out of an old board?

This may be a stupid question, but I'll ask anyway.

 

I have an OLD keyboard with very limited polyphony (16 if I recall - its a Korg SG-1D). Here is the question, is the polyphonic limitation something inherent in the board, or only to the tones it produces.

 

That may be confusing...so, let me ask it this way.

 

If I use that old board as a controller for, say, a new 64 (or more) polyphonic module/rack unit, will I still be limited to the 16 or will I get the full 64?

You'll get what ever the module is capable of-64 in your example. The controller is not the determining factor unless you want more then the # of notes on the transmitting keyboard.
