aliengroover Posted January 9, 2003 Posted January 9, 2003 Just passing this on. They did one of those online polls asking what the viewers felt was the reason CD sales have declined. In order of response percentage, they were (roughly): 1)Price 2)All of the Above 3)Decline in quality and 4) with a whopping 7% of the vote: downloading. Peace If at first you don't succeed, keep on sucking 'til you do suck seed!
Jotown Posted January 9, 2003 Posted January 9, 2003 And I will bet you that whopping 7% were musicians, or music professionals. Why? because the average Joe is digging getting free music, so he will certainly not want to admit that he/she is stealing music, and that it might be hurting the music industry. It's called DENIAL  . And it ain't just a river in Egypt. :D Jotown:) "It's all good: Except when it's Great"

Funny thing is, for those that do like the mess that's played on mainstream radio, the incentive isn't there to buy a CD. Why buy the song when they play it every two hours ? Gtoledo3 Posted January 9, 2003 Posted January 9, 2003 Why are people so simple minded? It's not that people don't like the music that's being foisted upon them; plenty do. It's just that a very narrow slice of the "music pie" is being presented to the public. That equates to a considerable amount of sales that the record companies aren't getting. Take the case of hair rock guys like Poison. There are millions of people that love that type of music; it's as close to musical perfection as it gets to them. There is no outlet in the marketplace for it. And there are many people that have never been exposed to it that might love it as well. The beauty of music is that there is "an ass for every seat." That's why the record labels are killing the "music business" by concentrating on "genres." Genre is immaterial- it's quality, skill, and emotional resonance that cause someone to go out and buy an album... not genre. Want mix/tracking feedback? CP Posted January 9, 2003 Posted January 9, 2003 Don't forget all those bootleg CDs they sell on the street. In NYC, you can get 3 CDs of the latest music for $10. Those guys always have a large crowd around them like they're giving away money. This has to have an effect on the record sales.
