Nawledge Posted January 9, 2003 Posted January 9, 2003 what is your impression of the program, i know you've mentioned it a few times but as far as innovative programs go it doesn't seem to be one of those that you expound on to much, I was just curious if your finding version 2 very useful or if its something you have'nt gotten into very much peace
Anderton Posted January 9, 2003 Posted January 9, 2003 I just downloaded V2.0 and have not installed it yet (that's my hope for the weekend). My role in the manual was simply to edit the existing document, which was written by Ableton, into a more "American-friendly" form of English. I must say that even though English is not their native language, they did a fine job on the manual and didn't really need much help. As to the program itself, I've actually mentioned it quite a bit. The only reason it's not my main program is the lack of MIDI support, which is still an important part of what I do. However, I am porting my live act over to Live, which is more suited to the type of music I do than Reason (my current choice). I don't think I'll have the ports done in time for my performances at NAMM, but probably in the next month or two. But Live 2.0 has a few features that knock me out, like being able to time-stretch pretty much anything. Also the way it handles effects is incredible. The ace-in-the-hole is the ReWire function -- as I become more proficient with the whole ReWire thing, I can easily see using Live to develop songs, then ReWire it into Sonar for additional MIDI work and processing. Bottom line is Live is a brilliant program, which is why I offered to help out with the manual. Wewus432 Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 I've got the Arturia Storm 2.0 demo rewired into the Ableton 2.0 demo and all I can say is...... Grain Delay. This is the coolest effect I've ever heard. Storm has all these different drum machines, so I record 4 tracks of drums and put grain delay and other effects on each track and it sounds unbelievable, like no drum machine you've ever heard. I just need to figure out how to start and stop recording by midi foot pedal and I can get rid of my Boomerang Phrase Sampler.
Nawledge Posted January 10, 2003 Author Posted January 10, 2003 thanks for the reply Craig. cool wewus what kind of system are you running those on? spec wise, and what kind of load can you put on it. those demos probably don't save right, so are you using something like "tapeit" to record the output of the master busses.
Wewus432 Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 Hey Nawledge: I'm running those programs on a Dell Dimension 4100, 866 MGZ processor,256 Megs or Ram. I can only do about 8 tracks in Ableton before it chokes though. Need a bigger processor because it seems to be fairly CPU intensive, and of course more RAM wouldn't hurt. Both programs are save disabled but I can record the output into Cool Edit. Man you've have got to try these programs, they are both amazing, The combination is unbelievable. You can also use other rewire programs in Ableton, Reason, and Rebirth are two.
