Radeon 7500 users. How's the noise?

I just ordered a Radeon 7500 64meg DDR yadda, yadda, yadda with dual monitor out. I just read that the fan's pretty darn loud, too loud for a studio pc?

I haven't heard the fan on this particular card but there are alternatives such as liquid cooling. In fact in my next upgrade I'm going all liquid as CPu's are going skyward in power and core technology is lagging somewhat.Although I didn't see any AGP card liquid coolers at Koolance http://koolance.com/products/index.html?category_id=2 The Jan. issue of Maximum PC supposedly has a shoot-out between different liquid cooling systems availible, and I have heard of gaming sites mention them.

I can definitely hear some increased noise with my Radeon 9000 Pro 128 MB card compared to my old (fanless) Matrox G550. It's not really that bad, but I can tell there's more fan noise going on. A watercooled system sounds interesting, but I hate to think what would happen if the resevoir goes dry or if I had a pump failure. I guess I could just set the mobo to shut down at a certain CPU temp (since my mobo supports that) - they just make me a bit nervous - water and electronics in close proximity? Still in all, they're the way to go if absolute quiet is important to you... or an Isorack or similar computer case enclosure... or a equipment room or closet. ;)

[/b][/quote]I know what you mean Phil,I have the same paranioa, but the new AMD chips will shut down(once they reach a certain temp.) before they burn out.The rest of the system is what I'm worried about.A guy over at audioforums say's he's been using a complete liquid cooled sytem for over a year now with no problems.I figure if worse comes to worse,a new board/chip/AGP is not that much to replace these days and is worth the risk, especially all the good reports (none bad so far)I've been hearing. My main fear is the tubes expanding or coming loose, but I haven't heard of one report about that so far.I'm definitely going to check out the magazine shoot-out(Jan. Maximum PC) to learn more.

Hmmm... I'm scared of liquid cooling as well. Right now the only computer noise I hear is my harddrives, so I'm leary of introducing new noise. Phil, do you think the fan could be replaced with a silent type on your 9000?

It's a pretty small fan, and I've not looked at it that closely, but I don't think it would be too hard to replace - assuming you could find a "silent" replacement. I do recall there being a cable from the fan to a jumper on the AGP card, and I am pretty sure it's socketed, so that's not going to be an issue either.

Thanks Phil. Your help is always appreciated. Oh, and I just dropped you a question on your waves question thread.
