Salyphus Posted January 9, 2003 Posted January 9, 2003 I don't think it's possible :( Hopefully they will add an audio input in a future revision, that would be an excellent feature! As if I didn't have enough reasons already to lust after one ;)
Rog Posted January 9, 2003 Posted January 9, 2003 Not to my knowledge! The iPod lacks A/D conversion. That would be completely fantastic though! "That's what the internet is for. Slandering others anonymously." - Banky Edwards.
nursers Posted January 9, 2003 Author Posted January 9, 2003 Hi Sal, That's just the thing - it may be possible if there was some sort of FireWire microphone etc..... a number of shareware apps will just record from whatever input there is.... nursers Posted January 9, 2003 Author Posted January 9, 2003 Really? I would've thought you could just copy the app over - doesn't the ipod run on a pared down OS? Salyphus Posted January 9, 2003 Posted January 9, 2003
doesn't the ipod run on a pared down OS
No, not a pared down version of OSX, it is a custom OS. That would be quite cool though, maybe in a future rev.
Crimean Posted January 9, 2003 Posted January 9, 2003 I was looking into the IPod for that very reason. It didn't have the external recording capability, but Creative's Nomad does. The new firmware revision just added meters too. It records into an 1/8" jack. You can record either at 44.1/16 or .mp3 I believe. I haven't had a chance to play with it much yet, just coming off of the holidays, but I hope to be able to soon! -Chris
Salyphus Posted January 9, 2003 Posted January 9, 2003 Unfortunately the Nomad only does transfers via USB. Slooooooooow. :(

The one I have does both USB and Firewire (Faaaaaaaaaaast) :) It must be new or something... It's the Nomad JukeboxIII, 40GB version... -Chris
nursers Posted January 9, 2003 Author Posted January 9, 2003 Interesting thread on the same issue in an iPod hacks forum: http://www.ipodhacks.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Forum&file=viewtopic&topic=854 &forum=2 Seems it can't be done without some OS reverse engineering :( The Keyboard Chronicles Podcast Check out your fellow forumites in an Apple Music playlist Check out your fellow forumites in a Spotify playlist My Music: Stainless Fields
