eric
...and it's not a keyboard. It's an iPod! I have been eyeing these for quite some time and have recently had close exposure to several friends and family members that have accelerated my GAS for one. It seems to have changed the quality of everyone's lives for the better, so I figured it might be a healthy addition to my toy collection. Can't wait for it to arrive and load up some music. Now to start that painful chore of ripping my CD collection into my PC. Not looking forward to that. Regards, Eric
jook
It's a laborious task (ripping from CDs)... but its rewarding when you soon start to benefit from having so much of your music collection with you all the time. One thing I'd recommend is upgrading headphones ... the included white earbuds are terrible.
bryla
??? you must be joking, jook... The ipod headphones are the best I've tried of that sort. Trill
Eric , its hard to believe I actually had a piece of gear before you , bieng the gear hound you are. You'll love the convenience of not looking for cds or carrying them.
circlesee
Just bought a Creative Zen Micro and couldn't be happier, I've already loaded 750 songs, ripping them wasn't that big a deal. Went to Radio Shack and bought a cassette tape interface for the car stereo and it works great. Now I don't have to lug all those CDs around with me. ITGITC
Yes Eric, you are a gear slut. If you have a home network, use multiple PCs to rip your CDs to a common hard drive. As I mentioned in another thread, I procurred a WD 250 Gig drive at Circuit City the other day for $70 after rebates. I had 3 computers ripping CDs feeding that drive. It took no time to finish. Congratulations on your purchase. It will change your life for the better... well, that and a big bag of money. Mark Zeger
I've been wanting one for a while and all my friends can't believe I don't own one yet. I'm waiting until fall for a new generation to hit the market. There is talk of a video capable iPod but there isn't much that you'd want to watch on such a small display. It does depend on what you're used to... and subjectivity as well. But basically, the included ipod earbuds hurts my ears at most volumes with its shrill sound and rolled off bass. It also has low impedance (I think its 15 to 30 ohms?), and there are measurements which show how the iPod's headphone driver actually produces a bass rolloff with lower impedance headphones - and this certainly reflects my experiences. Try a higher impedance headphone (60 ohm and higher), or any pair of Sennheisers (theyre not my favourite, but they're easily available), and I'll guarantee you'll spot the difference. Gulliver
Does it (iPod) record stuff in .mp3? I think it was the most hated audio format on these very boards not so long ago... I am back.
bryla
i'm thinking of all other earbuds that comes with a product, being that an mp3 player or discman or what ever... shure and sennheiser will always have better ones (i've got sennheiser HD-280 myself ) but for standard earbuds that come with a piece I think their fantastic! also in Denmark (where I live) sennheiser are not as cheap as ipod earbuds www.thomas.bryla.dk --- Powerbook 15" 1.5 Ghz G4, Logic Pro 7.1, Mackie Onyx 1640 w/ FW card, Yamaha P-250, WX7, Roland V-Combo, V-Synth, AX7, Korg M1-Bryla

It uses the same amount of space and is far superior. I bought the iTrip with my iPOD and was initially very happy with it. It has since crapped out as did my daughter's so I'd avoid buying one. I'm not that crazy about the dangling wires, but I'm now using a cassette/mini plug adapter.

eric
Thanks for the responses. I am ripping my CD collection over the weekend while I wait anxiously for the iPod delivery early next week. I got the U2 iPod for myself and a 6GB Mini for the wife with some cool custom engraving (I was creative with that 23 characters x 2 lines)! It is a pain to rip these songs (using iTunes now). Right now, I think I'm about 15% through my collection and I've got 2 days of songs consuming 2.61 GB. My hope is that I can get most, if not all, of my CDs into the U2 iPod. We'll see. This is actually a nice alternative to my typical gear lusting. I can devote some time to getting my iPod configuration ready for prime time and less time trying to spend money I don't have on an S90ES or Nord STAGE. eric
Hey Ben - good question about the Triton Extreme. That one stayed in my rig for only a couple of months. I had bought it impulsively when I found an insanely good deal on it. I was using it for fun at home and not gigging with it, so it was not really earning its keep. I quickly sold it to help pay for my DSI Poly Evolver KB. Regards, Eric
