gae_layahoo.it Posted January 8, 2003 Posted January 8, 2003 yesterday i hooked my nevaton m51 mic directly to the front pre on my digi 001 card. the nevaton has a red led who shows the amount of phantom power being fed to it.i instantly noticed that the led wasn't fully lit and that the output of the mic was discontinuous. so i tried connecting that mic to a small mixer i also use and the mic worked perfectly. the problem is on the phantom power supply on the digi. what could the problem be? please,PLEASE help me!!!
Bunny Knutson Posted January 8, 2003 Posted January 8, 2003 Have you tried asking this question on the DUC? Click here for link to Digi Forum. Why don't you just run your signal through your mixer? https://bunny.bandcamp.com/ https://theystolemycrayon.bandcamp.com/
ECBRules Posted January 8, 2003 Posted January 8, 2003 Check to see if the scsi cable that goes between the cpu and the 001 is tight. Wiggle it a little bit and see if you can get it better. Hopefully thats all it is. The input jacks on that thing seem to get old and worn out, it could also be a cold solder joint at the input jack, or the phantom power button itself could be bad. I can think of at least ten reasons as to why i would rather use the phantom power on the 001 instead of my mixer...... Degradation of signal, more noise, lower headroom, blah, blah, blah. We don't even know what kind of mixer he has. It sounds like a project DAW, rather than a pro studio, but I don't know. I just wanted to know why HE didn't want to run his signal through the mixer. It's a quick fix, if he's not that worried about the sound quality. I could have made a lot of assumptions, but I decided to start by asking questions. Sometimes gear is just in need of repair. Anyway, you gave him some good starting points, so between that and the DUC, I'm sure he'll figure it out. Peace. https://bunny.bandcamp.com/ https://theystolemycrayon.bandcamp.com/
ECBRules Posted January 9, 2003 Posted January 9, 2003 I was thinking that when I have a session going I usually max out my board and use the preamps on the 001 for mics. I think they sound kid of grainy actually....
