Steve who? The front page of the Forums still has you listed as moderator... Does this mean that we're now in a lawless zone? ;)

I used to think I was Libertarian. Until I saw their platform; now I know I'm no more Libertarian than I am RepubliCrat or neoCON or Liberal or Socialist.

This ain't no track meet; this is football.

It really seemed to me to be a bit goofy to have the same stickies at the top of both forums, though...besides, Steve should be free to set his own policies, doncha think?

FWIW, here are my feelings on the subject. I certainly don't think that's it's the end of the world that the stickies are gone; but nonetheless, I'd rather see them put back up. Here's why:

It's true that it was your policy to run the forum democratically and your idea to put those stickies up. However, we as a forum decided on the spam policy; so the way I see it, the forum policy reflects us as well as you.

In addition, I feel that new visitors who come to this forum should be able to discover at a glance not only what our policies are but also where our Introductions and other important threads are. You made good choices to put those threads up there, Dave. If Steve wants them gone or replaced, shouldn't that be his decision to make? Here's an analogy: if you were a retiring political figure, would you disassemble the programs you created so that your successor could start with a clean slate?

Lastly, I think it's moot that you put similar stickies up over at the Harmony Central forum because the links thread there links to KSS threads, not KC threads and the KSS forum policy differs slightly from the KC forum policy. Also, there's no guarantee that new visitors to this site would even be aware of the sticky threads at KSS, let alone make the connection that they also apply here.

Dave, I know that your motivations were good ones, but I hope you'll reconsider this decision.

Thanks.

Best,

Geoff

Geoff -

I appreciate your input.

If Steve wants to keep the policies intact, he is welcome to do so, of course. However, the voice and the signature in both of those stickies was mine, and I do not feel comfortable having them there, especially when they are now up at HC.

Additionally, you will notice that the forum description has also been changed. This, too, was done for similar reasons...Craig and I spent a bunch of time coming up with it, and it went over to HC as well.

I have decided to leave the name Keyboard Corner in place for a couple of reasons; however, Steve is more than welcome to change that as well, if he (and the rest of you) wish it - I won't be at all offended if that happens.

As I have said numerous times - I plan to continue to be a regular contributing member of this forum; however, I hope that you will understand the rationale behind the small changes that I made (stickies, forum description), and that in no way was any disrespect to the forum nor any of its members intended.

Thanks!

GAS you with us?

Well, I would, but for two things:

1) Sheep make poor deputies, and

2) I kinda liked this sheriff; I was hoping he'd quietly exit, then we could wreak havoc. ;)

Guess we'll have to do things the polite way, though... dang nabbit.

Cheers,

First of all, Dave, thank you for the incrediby congenial, professional atmosphere you've worked so hard to establish on these forums. You've left some big shoes to fill, that's for certain.

When Dave initially spoke to me about his and Craig's move to HC and asked me if I'd be interested in moderating the Keyboard Corner, I was shocked to hear he was going and flattered to be considered as a successor.

I could never be Dave. I'm a relative sports illiterate, for one thing! :D But the more I thought about it, the more I thought that as someone who regularly writes for Keyboard magazine, I might be able to help these forums become more integrated with our content, and try to make the magazine more responsive to feelings and requests posted here.

As of this moment, I have yet to receive official marching orders from CMP-Musicplayer that I am indeed the new moderator, although I have discussed it with both Dave and Ernie, KB's editor, in very positive terms. I suspect they're working out the details, and will let me know when they're ready. It doesn't say "moderator" under my avatar yet... and still does under Dave's.

When that changes, whether it's me as the new moderator or John Roberts or Stewie from "Family Guy," there will be an announcement that leaves no room for ambiguity. I'll save ideas I have for the forum until then.

Depending on how much my duties might include being here as an "official" voice of the magazine, the disclaimer I've had as my sig forever might change as well. Stay tuned ....

Well put, Steve.

As the only one of us frequent posters who's also a Keyboard magazine contributor, you're ideally suited to be our liaison to a more integrated magazine/forum relationship. :thu:

I wish you the best of luck!

Sven,

I think he done fine too, I just always thought it would be fun to run a sheriff out of town. It looks like the new deputy is saddling up though...darn.

True, sheep make bad sheriffs. I guess we'll have to use 'em to make saddle bags.

HI HO!

Spoken in Stewie-like intonation: Now, I'm free to enslave all your minds with my subliminal messages. Ah! Damn you, Lois! Where do you keep that thermometer... Antarctica?"

Seriously, thanks to all, especially to Br. Bryce who's given me a huge vote of confidence throughout this.

I'm preparing an official announcement, and should have it posted on a thread within a couple of hours. Also waiting for the server to officially change my status to "Moderator", which should be very soon.

Got a lot of ideas, and I do hope people who are inclined to go over to HC, as I will be myself as a member, will hang out here as well. I'm going to be regularly soliciting input for better integration between this forum and www.keyboardmag.com, as well as the print magazine itself. I also have some thoughts about putting things online that we often don't have room for in print: extended versions of interviews, extra photos, perhaps even a bit of video blogging ("Here's a closeup of famous pianist XYZ's hands on the keyboard so you can pause it and see their chord voicings. Here's footage of a touring band's keyboard techs setting up the elaborate rig in just a few minutes, and all the cool tricks they use to get the job done." This kind of thing.)

But I get ahead of myself here. I feel like I've just woken up at the controls of a spaceship already in flight. Increasing power to intertial dampeners ... bringing anti-matter injectors online ... and, ahead warp factor 1. Engage!

I'm going to the gym, then I'm coming back, and we're gonna get this party started. :)

Ah... my "new age keyboard star" avatar. I'm neither new age nor a star, but I think its sexier than John Tesh and Yanni combined!

It is a bit precious, isn't it? Let's try my South Park avatar instead. It's a bit large, so I'll make a smaller version later tonight.
