Brakka
Whoa. You should build one of those next. :thu: I've seen similar studio pics before- with custom furniture and expensive gear. Actually, someone here at SSS has a studio that this remided me of. He's also a Euro guy... can't remember who I'm thinking of. Hey- I was looking at that pic, and to the left of the keyboard on the back wall, there's something that looks like an ashtray. Is that a joint in there?
Mats Olsson.
That is Michael Cretu's studio. There's a better view of the console here . He has been very successful over the years, Enigma is just one of his many projects. His wife Sandra was also quite successful with tracks like Maria Magdalena - a huge eurodisco hit. They have a gorgeous "house" in Ibiza. BTW, does anyone know how they protect their images from downloading? Right-clicking doesn't seem to work. Strange... /Mats /Mats http://www.lexam.net/peter/carnut/man.gif What do we want? Procrastination! When do we want it? Later! Brakka
It's a java code- "document.onmousedown=click" I'm not a web programmer, just a photo thief. ;) Steal that pic here: http://www.enigmamusic.com/studio/studio-5.jpg (cmd-E to see the html on any page, hunt for the ".jpg.") And where I come from, that's not called a house. . http://www.enigmamusic.com/cretuhouse-2000.jpg
Philip OKeefe
I SUPPOSE that would be cool if you were primarily a composer who did "80 of your work on a keyboard", but having your console "split" like that, to either side, may make it harder to stay in the sweet spot while mixing. Different strokes for different folks - if it works for them, and they're happy, then great. As for me, being out of the sweet spot would drive me nuts. Joachim P. Dyndale
As for the studio... Well, I'll NEVER be able to have a studio like that, so I might as well get used to the idea. Mats Olsson.
That Michael Cretu dude grew up in Romania. That image download protection used is actually javascript - you can see it (and get it to use in your pages - they don't mind unless they explicitly say so, because these scripts are all over the internet for free download) by clicking the 'view' menu atop your browser window and sliding down to 'source' then clicking. To easily get the image in IE just save the whole page and the image will be in that pages "_files" folder where you saved it on your hard drive. -- Music has miracle potential --
lakeside studios
Yeah, but what about that poor wretched Zebra? And I thought all you needed for an Enigma recording was a Nellee Hooper drumloop and a half-decent pan-pipe sample.......... That's a long left and right-side stretch even for a long-armed person, as this pic makes clear ... which is why in some sessions my kb sticks out under the console desk on a low stand [my legs under it] and I can reach everything just dandy. Steve LeBlanc
hmm...wouldn't it be smarter to just learn to not need so much programming and spend more time actually playing instruments in your studio? :p http://www.youtube.com/notesleb
Bunny Knutson
Hey, I know you're joking, Steve, but that was a cheaper shot than my mullet comment! :D Seriously, though, the guy's got a big INSTRUMENT imbedded right in the middle of his damn console! Looks to me like he spends more time PLAYING than programming or mixing. But I know whatchya mean. You're probably basing your comment on his actual music, rather than how his studio looks. ;) https://bunny.bandcamp.com/ https://theystolemycrayon.bandcamp.com/

I could build a guitar into my chair but who the hell wants to cut tracks at a console anyway? UNLESS I'm punching in every two bars, quantizing phrases, programming drums that sound like shit or sequencing other stuff, etc. etc. To me that's pre-production...shit you do before you get to the studio...or certainly at least stuff you do before having to tweak your mixer...right? Why anyone would have to go back and forth all the time in practice...well it just seems a silly way to work on creative music. Maybe this could be worth it if you do mostly TV/Film stuff that is all sequence/sample based but then it just seems overkill. A decent computer with a Prodikeys keyboard would work just as well :D http://www.youtube.com/notesleb
