kenglish Posted January 6, 2003 Posted January 6, 2003 Saw a piece on CNN last night, about the airlines (in the name of "Homeland Security") want you to leave all your baggage unlocked! So, do they think I'm going to ship cases of expensive mikes, etc in unlocked cases? What do they want us to do.....carry ALL valuables in the carry-on luggage, and spend extra hours at the security screen? Should we all just quit flying, and drive everywhere? (After all, we all know it's possible to work a 30-hour day, and then drive 12 hours to the next gig! ;) ) What's next?.....Leave your cars unlocked in the airport parking lot? "Hey, Mr. Ticket Agent! I gotta go potty! Watch my wallet for me while I'm gone." There's gotta be a better way. Anyone who says that "Crime doesn't pay", obviously isn't doing it right.
Alndln Posted January 6, 2003 Posted January 6, 2003 Instead of hunting down and making life misereable and impossible for terrorists, they(the government)take their fustrations out on us,or so it seems. "A Robot Playing Trumpet Blows"
Mats Olsson. Posted January 6, 2003 Posted January 6, 2003 THEY will do anything to make people believe that they have all safety issues under control. It's just that the next big attack will probably not make use of public transportation. Or if it will, there will not be any knives or guns involved. Chemicals or germs are easiser to take on board. Now that there is an armed guard some terrorist will just stand up and say that "-someone else in here is armed with lethal matter, if you don't do exactly as I say , all on board will die". Who are THEY kidding? /Mats http://www.lexam.net/peter/carnut/man.gif What do we want? Procrastination! When do we want it? Later!
MattC Posted January 6, 2003 Posted January 6, 2003 That doesn't make sense? Didn't they used to ask if anyone besides the owner of the luggage had access to it? If they want us to keep our luggage unlocked, then the entire friggin' airport has access to my luggage! ...think funky thoughts...
Jode Posted January 6, 2003 Posted January 6, 2003 Oh boy. You know, I can't believe I never thought how tough the new airport horseshit would make it on traveling professional musicians. Hoo boy, I wouldn't want to try traveling in the air with a drumset with coated heads, with suspension mounts and internal mikes that make them just a little heavier than they look like they should weigh - but you can't see inside of them because of the heads. Can you imagine trying to explain what a May Miking System is to your average numbnuts airport cop? Some moron who probably barely got his GED, if anything at all? Do you think it's not remotely possible that they might do something stupid like cutting the heads open to look inside - or what a pain in the ass it would be to take them all off? Add to that the fact that you're already running the risk of having your gear arrive as sawdust and metal filings, if at all, and it doesn't look to appetizing at all. Valkyrie Sound Posted January 6, 2003 Posted January 6, 2003 I was coming back from Salt Lake City with a whole box full of balanced shielded cables... I got "randomly" picked (it ain't random.... I had a one way ticket purchased within 24 hours). They scanned by box of cables and the guy scanning looked at the screen and went totally white. He thought for sure he'd found a huge bomb! :D They sat and stared at it and me for about 15 min before they had the guts to try to move it or open it.... This is going to be fun for all of us... Valky Valkyrie Sound: http://www.vsoundinc.com Now at TSUTAYA USA: http://www.tsutayausa.com

DJDM Posted January 7, 2003 Posted January 7, 2003 I have a sinking feeling that the next suicide bomb runs are going to happen at the security checks at the airport... - DJDM DJDM.com

Benjy King Posted January 7, 2003 Posted January 7, 2003 Dig this!! Last summer they pulled our guitar player aside (always, by the way). He had a little travel fishing rod with him. They made him spool off all of the 4 pound test line from the reel. Why? Because he could strangle someone with it. 4 pound test? Yeah, right. Meanwhile.....what about the six 'steel' strings on his guitar AND the extra set of strings in the gig bag?!? Footnote: he gets searched every single flight. Without fail when we walk out to the curb he says, "OH, shit", and pulls out the 'leatherman' that was in pocket. http://www.leatherman.com/ Mmm? Benjy
Deathtoallwhoopposeme Posted January 7, 2003 Posted January 7, 2003 They are INSANE if they think i'm going to leave my expensive Musical Gear unlocked.....Bin Ladin is SOOOOO Beating us right now...He cost us billions on the attack and has totally disrupted our lives....His Terror tactics are working and our leaders are too stupid to do anything about it but put restrictions on our civil liberties and disrupt our lives....Instead of hitting the towers I can think of another place that would have been a lot better for the american PEOPLE if he would have hit....I love my country and it sickens me that it has been hijackacked by a bunch of dealmaking chicken hawk special interest minded self preservationists....Maybe if some of the so called intellectuals would get off their asses and vote we could do something about it....Less then 50% voter turn out in this country......We deserve the rape for our Ignorance...... Then Boston to Amsterdam and back. In my carry on bag was 4 packs of bass strings and a leatherman. I carried my 2 basses on the the plane for all the flights. They x-rayed everything, pulled me out of line to check my shoes for whatever (in Boston). They can't be serious. They are just using delays and long lines to give people a false sense of security.
Chaz Posted January 7, 2003 Posted January 7, 2003 There is no way in God's green earth that I am going to leave anything unlocked to be looked at and/or tampered with without my presence! I do not mind unlocking something at security's request while I am present, but that is the only way I will do it! AND/OR...if I have to purchase an extra ticket to take something of value onbaord and set it in the seat next to me, then I will surely do so. No people, lots open space, and the best air this side of the rockies!
