RangerJay Posted January 4, 2003 Posted January 4, 2003 One of the "inexpensive" MXL microphone mounts should work fine. I think the "MXL57 1006 Size Shock Mount" would work. You'd have to compare specs to be sure, though. At $29.99, it's a bargain. I have one for my ADK A-51, and it works just as well for some of my CAD microphones, too. They are kind of like a condom -- they stretch or shrink to accommodate many diameters. At that price, you could afford to buy a new mount several times a year, compared to the prices of other shock mounts. They are fairly sturdy, too. I wouldn't buy one of those Marshall MXL microphones, usually, but hell, you could buy an MXL microphone that includes a shock mount and STILL come out cheaper than buying just a shock mount from most companies. Then, you could record toilet sounds REALLY CLOSE, using an MXL condenser microphone, and not worry about losing a good microphone to splashdown. However, I wouldn't recommend using the shock mount when recording toilets, 'cause the mic might fall out and splash a perfectly good shock mount. Just my thoughts on the subject... Actually, the MXL microphones are a really good bang-for-the-buck deal -- if you don't have any really good microphones and you're on a limited budget.
AudioMaverick Posted January 4, 2003 Posted January 4, 2003 I ran across a booth at AES that had a generic. I have a pair on NT1000s. I'll see if I can dig up the business flier, late tonight. For anyone else who was there, it was on the far right wall just a few booths from the back. Anybody else visit them? In the mean time, I found this URL... http://www.micguys.com/accessories/acc_shockmounts.htm "It's all about the... um-m-m, uh-h-h..."
jeeper Posted January 4, 2003 Posted January 4, 2003 I've been looking at these: ssm-1 . They look to be rather universal in nature BUT I just do not know if they would have a secure hold on a mic. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with them. The same people make several options etc for their mounts also.
Philip OKeefe Posted January 4, 2003 Posted January 4, 2003 Hank, was it the tightening nut that broke on your shockmount? Mine broke on my standard NTK stand adapter, and a quick call to Rode had a new one on the way yo me the same day. But if that's what broke, I wouldn't be surprised. The tightening nut and plastic around it is not the strongest thing on the planet.
saucyjack Posted January 4, 2003 Posted January 4, 2003 Hank, Do a google search on Gary Young and Shockmount for Gary's website. My NTK came with this mount and works pretty well.I think it runs about 20 bucks. It's not the most elegant mount but it does the job. BTW Gary is the former Pavement drummer Smell the Magic www.Katp.com

Here's a link: http://www.geocities.com/garytheplantman/shockhome.html He has 'em on ebay fairly often, and you might be able to get one there for a tad less.
saucyjack Posted January 4, 2003 Posted January 4, 2003 Yeah, that's the ticket... Thanks Phil O Smell the Magic www.Katp.com
Mats Olsson. Posted January 4, 2003 Posted January 4, 2003 Check out Beyer Dynamic, they have a couple of shock mounts that seem to work pretty well on different microphones. Here's a link to their EA 37 shock mount . /mats http://www.lexam.net/peter/carnut/man.gif What do we want? Procrastination! When do we want it? Later!
