Alndln Posted January 2, 2003 Posted January 2, 2003 I found this one amusing. It seems Bill Wyman, former bassist of the Rolling Stones is threating a journalists with legal action who's birth name is (you guessed it)Bill Wyman over his use of the name. While Wyman and his attorny's find no problem with the journalist using his own name(how nice of them),it's just that the journalist in question seems to write about Rock and music related subjects which has Wyman(Stones)and his attorney's claiming misrepresentation of charachter(or something like that).Bill Wyman the writer was born Bill Wyman in 1961,while Bill Wyman the bassist was born William Perks, and changed his name to Wyman in 1964.Personally I think this is something Wymans (the bassist) attorneys latched onto, but they do need permission from the man himself to go forward with legal action I guess.Talk about self-righteous-pohmpous-rock-star-self-importance-bullshit!!Deluxe with extra Cheese! :D www.accessatlanta.com/ajc/living/1102/14wyman.html "A Robot Playing Trumpet Blows"
Philip OKeefe Posted January 2, 2003 Posted January 2, 2003 Saw this covered on cable (Fox?) some time back... I think the guy NAMED Bill Wyman by his parents should counter sue Bill Wyman of Stones fame and nail him for a few mil... after all, it was HIS name first, and Wyman's attorney are causing all that hassle and "pain and suffering" for the legit guy... Seriously, stupid lawsuits like this are just indicative of the sorry state of US jurisprudence. Wonder why cases take so long to bring to trial? The court dockets being filled with worthless garbage like this "case" is one of the biggest reasons. Damn frivilous lawsuits!
Tedster Posted January 2, 2003 Posted January 2, 2003 Meanwhile, when you've got a serious case, like, say, a city government screwing up your property, try and get an attorney to take it. There all standing in line waiting for those Wyman cases. Mothers. "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"
D_dup3 Posted January 2, 2003 Posted January 2, 2003 Two things: (1)It's a legit concern that the name Bill Wyman could be mistaken for the former Strolling Ruin. Since leaving the band he's published several books & it wouldn't be unthinkable that the byline could be mistaken by some as representing him. (I wondered what Lee Flier, an Atlanta area member, thought of this). (2) The matter's been recently resolved, I heard---though I didn't care enough to mentally file the decision.
