The genius of TLC's Producers/Engineers

A week or two ago they played a show on MTV featuring all of tLC's hit videos. i really realized that these girls were awful singers, and that their engineers/mixers/producers were really ingenious in the way that they mediated TLC's problematic performances through chorusing fx, simply muting sour notes, and fading vocals down that go sour at the end.

As far as "how,"... there are a lot of parts where the harmonizing is just out of tune, the voices are shaky, and generally, the stylisms sound inhibited and uninspired. There is one song in particular that you can hear that the mixer constructed a whole breakdown and buildup that really enhanced the song. I think it's "Red Light Special." It sounds like originally there was just a repeated chorus ride out/fade thing...

Dallas Austin was really creative...I like a lot of the tracks he's done...TLC were a good vehicle for him. "Red Light Special" was produced by Babyface and it sounds like it. I don't particularly like his style but it does work. TLC are amongst the most talentless singers to ever sell more than a million CDs...I'm having trouble thinking of artists with less singing ability...is there anyone as bad as TLC???

I don't know about Bralala, never heard of him. Luther Campbell? I've never heard him sing...he's not a great rapper but I can't comment on his singing. Salt n Peppa are rappers but they actually do have some singing ability...more than TLC IMO. When did Coaster go platinum?
