strat0124 Posted December 30, 2002 Posted December 30, 2002 Damn if they are not the new Beatles, awesome arrangements/songwriting. Its all I've listened to all weekend. Down like a dollar comin up against a yen, doin pretty good for the shape I'm in
Jedi Posted December 30, 2002 Posted December 30, 2002 I always wanted to grab some of their stuff. Which album do you suggest? "All conditioned things are impermanent. Work out your own salvation with diligence." The Buddha's Last Words R.I.P. RobT
D. Gauss Posted December 30, 2002 Posted December 30, 2002 there's about a zillion. get some mid period stuff where the fidelity got a wee bit better, but before he ditched the whole band for different guys.... -d. gauss
strat0124 Posted December 30, 2002 Author Posted December 30, 2002 Actually even the 4 track stuff is killer. But the arrangements were more fun with the cleaner stuff. Down like a dollar comin up against a yen, doin pretty good for the shape I'm in
The Bear Jew Posted December 30, 2002 Posted December 30, 2002 Mag Earwig (Matador Records) is a famous one. There's also "The Fading Captain" series and "The Suitcase" as well. More info here: http://www.gbv.com/ The songs are great... very Who-like. Robert Pollard is one of those guys who can rock his ass off, but somehow doesn't get the love he really deserves for it. \m/ Erik "To fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists of breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting." --Sun Tzu
Magpel Posted December 30, 2002 Posted December 30, 2002 Pollard's great, one of the few indie kingpins of real interest to me, the other being Stephen Malkmus, whose muse I rate even more highly, but that's a matter of taste. Mag Earwhig is a terrific album. I hear their newest one is great too. Check out the Sweet Clementines CD at bandcamp
rfenergy Posted December 30, 2002 Posted December 30, 2002 Yeah!!! GBV is great!!! Bob Pollard is a really cool guy. I have talked with him a few times. If you are a GBV nut, check out one of Bob's favorite records called, Shonen Knife by Yugi Oniki. It is an amazing record!!! It is out of print but you can find it out there... Out, rfenergy p.s. I played drums on half of Shonen Knife.
