If it's on the level, it's probably not the first attempt. I'm willing to bet that the Chinese, Russian, or perhaps even the American government have taken (secret) strides in this area. Cloning is inevitable. Get used to it. The Black Knight always triumphs!

Sylver Posted December 27, 2002 Posted December 27, 2002 My only problem with human cloning is that there is really not enough information on the long term viability of the clones. I've heard that Dolly the sheep has some health concerns, and may be aging prematurely. It would be a shame to have a few hundred or thousand kids born, then have to tell them, "Gee, we're sorry. We didn't really know what we were doing and you're not going to live past 20. Oops!" I really don't know what to put here.
meccajay Posted December 27, 2002 Posted December 27, 2002 I mean, we ALL know microchip technology came from outer space, but THESE people are just Karaaazy...right?? THE RAELIAN MOVEMENT Founded: 1973, France Founder: Claude Vorilhon, who took the name Rael; his book is "The Final Message" Basic tenet: The old Hebrew phrase "Elohim" -- usually translated as a name for God -- should have been interpreted as a reference to non-Earthlings "from the sky." These entities are, Raelians say, responsible for the creation of life on Earth. Membership: The organization says it comprises some 40,000 members worldwide, with highest concentrations in France, Canada and Japan. Outside researchers have suggested the membership may be smaller. Source: The University of Virginia's New Religious Movements source TROLL . . . ish.

Roto Posted December 27, 2002 Posted December 27, 2002 I'm an atheist and even I believe that God will smite these people :D Cloning frightens me for many reasons, mostly for the clones themselves. Growing embryos for organ transplants is just creepy, so what if they clone people and let them live among society? Will they have health issues? They will definitely have discrimination issues. Human cloning is just disturbing.
realtrance Posted December 27, 2002 Posted December 27, 2002 Jeff, you make yours a girl, I'll make mine a boy, or the other way around, whatever your preference. Just so long as they can procreate. :) rt

Nuts! :freak: ~~~ When I saw the title of this thread, I thought it was going to be about the current activities in North Korea. techristian Posted December 28, 2002 Posted December 28, 2002 First of all, I don't believe that "Eve" is healthy, if she isn't just a hoax. Second, if she is healthy, how many botched clones did they have to abort to get her? The other thing which was touched on is the aging thing. If the DNA comes from a 30 year old, it is 30 year old DNA which has already undergone some breakdown (aging) over the 30 years. Will Eve age rapidly? I feel that this whole cloning thing is mankind playing with a new technological toy, not caring about the consequences. It is Frankenstein medicine. THIS WORLD IS GOING MAD! Super 8 Posted December 28, 2002 Posted December 28, 2002  "The APOCALYPSE is upon us????!!!!" Oh dear, I just knew this would happen... :( Well, I was able to catch the press conference on the tube, and I would say if you are skeptical over this you have good reason to be. They offered absolutely no evidence, no pictures, no nothing, to back up their claims. Anyone on this board could have called the same conference... The woman who spoke had two or three different colors of hair, and seemed to be more of a displaced dead-head than a doctor. By the way, she was just a spokesperson, she didn't claim to have been the one who did the cloning. According to the experts, human or primate cloning is thought to be a far more complex process than it has been for cats, mice, and sheep. And apparently, science is a good distance away from perfecting THOSE processes! So, the odds of this just being a hoax to get attention for the UFO religion is probably around 99%. Cloning humans may be inevitable, I don't know. I hope not. I have a hard time seeing any reason to do it -other than just to prove that we can. But for now, I think we can safely say it hasn't been done yet. Super 8 Hear my stuff here

A little like X-men and Bladerunner combined. We can create a 'worker-class' and give them the necessary genetic traits to make them big and to accept commands without questioning anything. Just think of it! Wait... We don't need cloning to do that! Aren't we already getting the same results through fast-food and television???? :freak: YES, MASTER.... Super 8 Hear my stuff here
Kendrix Posted December 28, 2002 Posted December 28, 2002 Some people thought the wright brothers were crazy cause man had no buisiness trying to fly. Some people think medicines and vaccines are unethical cause they subvert the intent of God/Nature. Some people thought that organ implants created the same ethical dillema- same with test tube babies, Hey, on the face of it, belief that extraterrestials played some role in mankinds past is no less plausible than a belief in any number of religions/ God(s). To some extent its a mater of faith at this point. Is this less plausible than reincarnation? ( which the majority of the worlds poeple believe in). Yes there are unanswered questions and issues facing cloning. - but this is par for the course with things like this. Im pretty certain that stem cell research and cloning-based technologies , in one form or another, will help millions of folks with a wide variety of health problems in our lifetime. Lets try and open up our minds a bit eh. Besides, if it werent for experimentally-enabled progress we probably would not have Jack Daniels ;) Check out some tunes here: http://www.garageband.com/artist/KenFava
Tedster Posted December 28, 2002 Posted December 28, 2002 CLONES? Oh...I thought you said "clowns". Never mind. Seriously though, these Raelians or whatever believe that human life originated from aliens. Stupid question... Where'd the aliens come from? "Cisco Kid, was a friend of mine"

Beyond that, I don't see the point in cloning humans. This is much different than stem cell research, IMO. Stem cell research may lead to medical breakthroughs, but human cloning just seems like an trajedy waiting to happen. Anyone here ever see The 6th Day? realtrance Posted December 28, 2002 Posted December 28, 2002 Okay, so let's get this back into the sphere of musical meditation: Can a clone make original music? I think not!
