You guys can make light of venor spamming this site if you want, but I wish you would look at things for other players points of view. I agree with Yeti. I've been posting about this since this thread started, so you can point the finger at me too, as well as everyone else that said they don't want to be hustled on this forum.

All we ask as non MI employees that those that do work in the Music Industry identify themselves. That in itself is not a bad thing. I know who Mike Martin is, have occasionally conversed with Chuck from Sweetwater, and that in itself is good for business. It helps build a relationship with their company. Conversely, all we want is to know that you work in the MI. I think that fair.\

SteadyB: From what you said in this thread, you worked for Apple and Alesis at some point. Maybe putting a blurb at the bottom of your sig line would make that distinction and you won't have to repeat yourself every month or so.

I agree, and I don't think that it's too much to ask. There are newbies that come here and ask for advice on choosing a platform/DAW/monitors/synth, and not everyone knows who mike martin/steadyb/(insert someone here) is and who they work for. It only takes 3 seconds to edit a sig line to show who you are. I don't think it's a big deal.

How exactly are you being "hustled"???

SteadyB:

This entire thread started when one vendor solicited someone on this forum. Basically, asked for a sale. Dave Bryce intervened and deleted the thread. We don't want to be solicited. We want unbias opinions from other players that don't have a business axe to grind. Have I personally ever been hustled? No, don't want to be either.

Since the majority of my posts are on th B-Ball thread, other sports threads, and the occasional holiday Dr Suess thread with Dan South, I'm posting as myself not as an Apple representative.

If you want me to limit my tech/product related posts to just replying to a question or statement, no problem.

It's pretty funny that there have been a total of 3 people in 4 years to make that request (you, Jeebus and trolling yeti), and you and Jeebus only did so after trolling yeti decided to go off on his little anti-Mac campaign.

Ask Dan South if I've been helpful or not. No one hates the Lakers more than him, and yet... ;)

Really? You think that when SteadyB, Me, Dave Bryce, Mike Martin and others post here, we're doing it to hustle you?

So, you think my sig line should read:

---

Advertising, Marketing & Public Relations Specialist for Aphex Systems, eBlitz Audio Labs, ESP Guitars, Frontier Design Group, Guitar Center Professional, Groove Tubes, and Musicians Institute.

---

Is that REALLY less spammy than my talking about all kinds of gear here? Should I also add that I used to work for Alesis and TASCAM to be clear on that topic? I already include a link to my business site where anyone can see exactly with whom I have business affiliations.

Again, I think this forum has been running fine under Dave's rules as-is... and I'm a big fan of not fixing what ain't broke. Any time I even mention one of the products I have a remote affiliation with, I add that disclaimer already.

Is this really a problem, or are we making it one?

ugh...this is just plain silly...this forum has rocked for several years now...it's all good, recent complaints were from someone trying to change the way this great forum operates...pretty much all the regulars said, "no change"

Lawd a mercy. We should definately change your name from Weasel to "pimp"!

:)

I came down here to talk about how ...pleasantly surprising it was to hear Greg Anthony's comments on the NHL substitute game (basketbrawl 04) that turned into a basket ball game before the fight. The guy was articulate, relatively unbaised and most eloquent. Much surprised.

Sorry, I'm only allowed 1 post per month up here...gotta cover everything...anybody know guitarists called Ira Siegel and/or Paul Guzzone?

Had the opportunity to work alongside them last week...101% pros, and 101% professional.

I wouldn't limit anything you have to say as a member of this forum and you are contributing info that you know, is helpful to someone asking, or just a reply to an on going thread FYI. Its really not a problem that you work for Apple. (By the way, I still have a Mac+ with an external 20MB hard drive that still works fine, it just can't tell time anymore :) ). It only is a problem when someone doesn't know that they are talking to a MI mfg. or Dist. and takes their post as an unbiased end user OR gets solicited for business when they didn't ask for it. That's all.

Jeff: Actually, putting "Da Business" is probably not represented in a way that tells me in you are in some kind of music related business. "Da Business" sounded like another one of your practical jokes. :) I never checked the link before today.

We're probably wasting too much time on this topic now anyway. I'm going to go hit the keys. My playing is one thing I know that could stand some improvement. :)

Well...

The way that I handle it (as many of you have seen) is that any time I post about any of the products with which I am affiliated, I type the name of the company under my customary dB, like:

dB

ADAM Audio USA

or

dB

DSI

Doing this effectively lets me put on and take off a company hat. It clearly indicates when I am posting officially, and lets me be just another forum member when I'm not.

In addition, the reason that neither name is a permanent part of my sig is I'm uncomfortable with that...I see that as being tantamount to a constant advertisement of sorts, and I don't want to do that at all.

I think it'd be reasonable to ask anyone who is affiliated with an MI manufacturer to do something like that when they are speaking about their products, and/or posting with their official hat on. My Weasel brother could just add the name of the company he's speaking about without having to add the litany of others with which he is affiliated, and I don't imagine brother steadyb would have a problem adding an "Apple/Emagic" tag after his name when he's posting as an employee. Since the vast majority of steady's posts are not related to Apple/Emagic (sorry, yeti, but that is true), if he doesn't want to wear his company nametag when he's not talking business, I don't see any reason he should have to.

Is that a reasonable way to go?

I'm still trying to figure out this MI thing. Have I finally figured out correctly from all this context I've been given that is stands for musical instrument?

And I don't think I represent any MI (whatever that is) so I won't disclose that even though I have already disclosed my cluelessness to what that is. So while I may not have a conflict of interest giving advice, I do give a disclaimer warning not to listen all the same.

It's really hard to separate the fact that your interests as a keyboard player/musician perhaps relate to your work. That's understandable. But, MI people shouldn't hide who they are to other people who just post less on here and don't know them either. Come out and tell everyone who you are or at least that you are in the MI industry in your sig. That might make a difference to someone else especially if you are talking about gear.

I always have my main company in my sig which tells you at least that I am in the MI business. I work closely with about 7 other companies as well including our on line shop, several distributors and keyboard/software manufacturers that we OEM sounds for. A lot of that information though is available on my main SR web site if anyone wanted to know more. I agree that it is not realistic (and can even look pompous) to be listing EVERYONE you ever worked for in your sig. But, at least SOMEthing in your sig to show you are an MI rep would be fair to others I think.

Also, just for the record, I wasn't trying to hustle anyone with my very simple post about a group buy. Just thought some people might like to know about it that's all. But I know, I know... Next time the group will have to spread the word themselves if they want the group discount to be better that's all.

Hey, now that it is coming out that some of you guys work for Apple and Alesis etc. I think I may even know some of you (that's where I met Bryce years ago at Alesis. I used to do a lot of the samples for their modules and keyboards. Shame we don't get along anymore). Out of curiousity do I know you SteadyB? Hmmm. I wonder. Maybe not but I bet I know some of you guys and you should cut a Squid a break you hyprocritical MI $%&*#ers. ;)

Some say musical instrument, some say music industry. You've pretty much got the idea, though...
