Cowbell Posted December 26, 2002 Posted December 26, 2002 Who in your opinion has the most recognizable good voice. No, I don't want answers like Ozzy or Bob Dylan. I guess Robert Plant counts, though hes right on the border. I might have to say Jack Bruce. I can instantly tell it's him if I hear half a second of the song. So, post who you think has the "best voice" and maybe we'll put it to a poll.
fantasticsound Posted December 26, 2002 Posted December 26, 2002 Ken Nordine! I'd sacrifice a lot to have as deep and resonant a voice as the man who voiced Folger's coffee and Amoco Ultimate commercials, as well as Word Jazz. A true legend. James Earl Jones. 'nuff said. James Coburn. Ditto, may he RIP. (Just listen to his performance as the voice of Mr. Waternoose in Monsters, Inc. and you'll know what I mean.) ...wha???... singing voice?? Been argued to death. It all depends on what you want to hear. Personally, I'm entirely sick and tired of the Whitney Houston, et. al. fantastic voice being as overdone as Michael Angelo (Batio) on guitar. The best performances I've ever heard do NOT include 16-note-improvs-per-syllable vocal gymnastics. There are simply too many contenders for each of the near infinite variety of vocal timbres. Sorry. :( It's easiest to find me on Facebook. Neil Bergman Soundclick fntstcsnd
Cowbell Posted December 26, 2002 Author Posted December 26, 2002 Damnit Coaster what did I just say?! :freak:
Dak Lander Posted December 26, 2002 Posted December 26, 2002 NOT a singing voice that I know of but; Jeez, I can't remember the guys name. John Plescenda? Dwarf Posted December 26, 2002 Posted December 26, 2002 Roger Daltrey has a certain "something". -- Rob I have the mind of a criminal genius.....I keep it in the freezer next to mother.
Cowbell Posted December 26, 2002 Author Posted December 26, 2002 I was just about to say that Dwarf. This bugs the crap outta me,but I just can't take Plant's singing anymore. I mean...wow. Its so irritating hearing him scream like that. I guess I could add a little band called the Beatles....maybe some of you have heard of them.

Interestingly enough, Harry Kalas the guy who does the NFL films now also has a Philly connection. He's been the tv/radio announcer for the Phillies for over 30 years. bob

Bob Keelan Posted December 26, 2002 Posted December 26, 2002 Hmmm, not sure what you're shooting for here but if we're talking about 'unique' here's: Sting Stevie Nicks Nat King Cole the 'original' Michael Jackson Tiny Tim off the top of my head. bob

phaeton Posted December 26, 2002 Posted December 26, 2002 *best* famous voice.? kinda subjective... After all, i kinda like some of the stuff Plant does... especially in songs like Been A Long Time Since I Flogged A Mole... Of anything, some of my personal favourites- Howlin Wolf- the man gives me shivers. Lightnin Hopkins- he's just got that easy-going-happy-go-lucky voice James Hetfield- Even though i prefer thier older music, i much prefer James' voice now that he sings instead of screams Paul D'Anno- Original vocalist for Iron Maiden- Perfect for Rock and Opera David Coverdale- From the Deep Purple days Uriah Heep- I don't know thier names off the top of my head, but damn those guys have some pipes when they want to! Vanilla Fudge- See above, although some will argue that VF are so bad that they're actually kinda good. Peter Green- From Fleetwood Mac before all the chicks took over. Excellent voice, and when i get my singing skills up there, i will actually sound rather similar to him. Keith Rowe- From the Yardbirds, and it always helps when all the other guys chime in too. GFR- Can't recall the lead singer's name off the top o' me head Ian Anderson- He's got a wierd voice. I can imitate him quite well Vocalists that are in some of my favourite bands, but i don't particularly care for: Bruce Dickinson, and especially his successor Blaze Daily or whatever his name was Dave Mustaine Mike Patton Vince Neil and sometimes, even Ozzy... Although I feel he is a great, great man. Dr. Seuss: The Original White Rapper . WWND?
Chris Johnson Posted December 26, 2002 Posted December 26, 2002 I think you meant 'professional', so: Crosby, Stills and Nash. Listen to the early track 'Helplessly Hoping' and see if it doesn't melt your brain :) Michael Jackson. At least from his beginnings until Thriller, possibly even beyond if I cared to listen :) that psycho loony alien bugger could SING. Probably still can.
GZsound Posted December 26, 2002 Posted December 26, 2002 Only one possible answer...Sinatra. "The Voice" Mark G. nhcomp45aol.com Posted December 26, 2002 Posted December 26, 2002 Ringo has the most recognizable voice in The Beatles
Sylver Posted December 26, 2002 Posted December 26, 2002 Ummmmm, there was this guy ... He redefined popular music ... if you don't recognize him when you here his voice, you must have been living under a rock for the past 60 years ... and more people pattern themselves after him that just about anyone ... Frank Sinatra. I really don't know what to put here.
PBBPaul Posted December 26, 2002 Posted December 26, 2002 I'd have to say Paul Rodgers, Aretha, Crosby Stills & Nash and my favorite; Son House. That guy had more soul in his little finger than I could ever hope for. Our new and improved website Today's sample tune: Lonesome One
Mark Zeger Posted December 26, 2002 Posted December 26, 2002 Ray Charles - can sing something as unassuming as "Bein' Green" and make you cry your eyes out Willie Nelson - the greatest sense of phrasing a lyric since Sinatra Stevie Wonder - you knew it was really him singing the Target X-mas spot before seeing him in it Elvis Costello - his voice isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it works for me Al Green - as brilliant as his secular material is, I can't imagine how powerful Al is in church Aretha - no one comes close
