Rest in peace, RobT

I know that many of you read the other MusicPlayer forums and may be already aware of this, but a guy who posted pretty often here at the Keyboard Corner has, sadly, passed away.

RobT was a really nice guy who I had the pleasure of interacting with on this and several other forums. He was a bass player and a synth guy as well. Here is a link to the memorial thread on the SSS forum. He died of a heart attack on July 11, at only 44 years old, and left a wife and daughters behind.

Very sad news. Rest in peace, RobT.

I don't post here much and I didn't know RobT but someone else said in another forum that you must live each day as if it were your last. Betcha' Rob didn't think about being dead the day before his death.

My wife and I had a little spat this morning and I left in a huff. This makes me think about what was said and that maybe I should just leave work now and go home to tell my wife how much I love her. I haven't told her that lately... I'd hate to leave this earth without telling her how much she means to me.

I think about that all the time. It's incredible how the daily details of living get in the way of seeing the big picture.

I didn't know Rob. We never met, never spoke on the phone. But just from his posts I got the impression that he was one of the nicest people in the world, someone you could always rely on. Bedrock. I'm guessing that he was a very supportive bassist with that kind of attitude. His sudden departure is a real kick in the gut.

My deepest condolences to his family. Rob was a great man. Even those of us who knew him peripherally recognized that. His warmth and empathy came through in post after post.

Good journey, old friend. God bless you.

I was struck by the subjects of some of Rob's last posts: concern over gearmike\'s heart condition , concern over Henry Robinett leaving the forums , voting for Lee Flier ...

Rob was a very supportive guy. I wish he could have stayed with us longer. :(

Best,

Geoff

Reading Rob's post on the Introductions thread brings very real tears to my eyes, even though I never had the pleasure of chatting with him. My sincere condolences to the family.

Okay here it goes you keyboard dudes.

My name is Rob Thompson. My family and I currently live in Charlotte, NC. We are originally from Detroit, MI. Got sick of the winters and headed for a warmer climate.

I am primarily a bassist (flame shields up). Who getting serious about composing and music theory. So after a few years hiatus from music a few friends from work asked if I wanted to play a benefit for work. I said yes and haven't looked back.

I usually hang out in the Bass Forum/Bass Station/nome du jour

for the bassists. I see I am not the only one. I recognize quite a few names . I am getting my feet wet with composing and arranging some tunes for the praise and worship band at church. I avoided the music theory thing for years and now I am crash coursing it and loving it. We have a Kurzweil (model escapes me at the moment) at church and I have a Yamaha at home. I am currently investigating software and keyboards/midi controllers for my home setup. And looking into taking some music theory or piano courses in the near future. What I know right now is self taught but I could use a little guidance.

Hope you all don't mind a member of the rhythm section hanging out here and picking up some pointers.

Wow -- as someone who not long ago left Ann Arbor, MI to come to Durham, NC (for the weather), and only a few years older, I can relate. Remind me to tell my wife every day how much I love her. OK, you don't have to remind me, I do that anyway. The real trick is finding different ways to say/show it. I'm not so good at that, such a creature of habit.

Well, the best we can do now is remember fondly, and try to learn from his good example.
