Brakka Posted December 22, 2002 Posted December 22, 2002 No, this is not a Peart thread :o I want a robot drummer. I like real drummers, don't get me wrong. I also like drum machines, don't get me wronger. But it sure would be cool to bring a real drum kit to a gig, hook up your robot drummer, quick soundcheck ("okay, now give me the snare... okay great, now kick..."), press play, and you're rocking. No monitor mix, can play any feel you tell it to, and extra backstage beer for me! I could never build one, but it can't be that hard. :D I only really need it to play kick-snare-hat, and maybe a couple more cymbals and a cowbell. ;) I searched the world wide web, and here are some robot drummers I found. -------------------- SCIENCE The Kawato Dynamic Brain Project the HUMANOID ROBOT performs the Okinawa folk dance "Kacha-shi" and learns human-like eye movements based on neurobiological theories. It learns by watching and imitating. It also juggles and drums. patrick_dont_fret Posted December 22, 2002 Posted December 22, 2002 Robot drummers? Human drummers? There's a difference? You tell the drummer what to do anyway, don't you. They just need a little more maintainence, the so-called human kind. And for some reason they have this glitch that causes them to talk back to you, thinking they are not off time. I'll tell you this, bassists are always right. And that ain't no joke.
BNC Posted December 22, 2002 Posted December 22, 2002 Maybe we can set up some sort of group buy... :D Quote by Patrick: I'll tell you this, bassists are always right. And that ain't no joke. You got that right! :D

I'm not really going to play gigs with a robot drummer, or even a drum machine. But it would be fun to have one- what a conversation piece! Maybe one of those little "Junior" kits, with a real kick pedal and hat stand. Slap on a Chewbacca doll or something, add some clamps & servos and a MIDI-CV, and let's get this party started! Has anyone checked out the ART robots? Freakin' cool.
I I mjrn Posted December 22, 2002 Posted December 22, 2002 This is in the other direction entirely but my favorite part of the recent Paul McCartney TV show was (no not the royalties---Michael doesn't give me any of those since he cut me out)...was the ape at the research center playing the drum in time. First demonstrable evidence that any creature other than humans actually has a sense of music similar to ours. Back to the point, those do look cool---think they'll put the Blue Man Group out of business?
Super 8 Posted December 23, 2002 Posted December 23, 2002 Why spend big for a robot? Trained monkeys are a better alternative. Plus they are cute, can get you drinks & stuff, and can pick people's pockets. Yep! You gotta go with trained monkeys. Watch out though, cause they DO bite... I don't need the abuse, and Patrick doesn't need to get his ass kicked quite that hard... :freak: Patrick, you're a dweeb... Oh, and drummers are a bassit's best friend, by the way. They keyboardist thinks you're dumb, the guitarist thinks you must suck or you'd be playing a REAL guitar, and the singer doesn't think of you at all. Have a nice day! :) Super 8 Hear my stuff here
