Steve in KS
I've been working on getting a P120 for a while, but had trouble deciding between it and the 250. Discovering the weight of the P250 helped me make up my mind. Anyway, it sounds great overall. I traded my Yamaha Clavinova CLP 130 for the P120. The voice configuration is almost identical, but I've discovered one disturbing difference. The 'choir' on the P120 is terrible. I can hear it cycling about every 1.5 seconds, really ugly. I don't know why it would be different than the one in the Clavinova. Any ideas?
drawback
Actually, I have no idea why they put a choir in there at all. What a waste of memory. ____________________________________ Rod Here for the gear.
MikeT156
Steve: I played a P120 last week but didn't bother with the choir, don't use it. For what that piano costs, and the small, lightweight design, personally, it wouldn't matter to me. But if its important to you, call your dealer and ask him. I doubt that its defective, its probably their sample. Enjoy the new P120 anyway! Mike T. I like your blurb at the bottom of your posts "Stop mad cowboy disease, vote for John Kerry". Very cool. orangefunk
Wow just goes to show what a difference in taste we all have. I actually really like the choir, vibes and guitar sounds on the P120. I think they are all much better than my MOTIF 7's.
Superbobus
I never onderstood why they put choirs in digital pianos. Vibes, harpsichords, organs, okay, but why choirs? http://www.bobwijnen.nl Hipness is not a state of mind, it's a fact of life.

I think there's something wrong with it.

I generally agree. I would rather they used the sample space for a more elaborate piano sample, like on the P250, but I guess they're trying to please everybody. The only reason I need the choir is that I use a Vintage Pro for Mellotron sounds, but the choir sample in the Vintage Pro sucks.

I could have gone with the P90 for an even lighter piano, but preferred the P120. Decisions, decisions !
MikeT156
Steve: The instruments I use to have to haul around were true HEAVY WEIGHTS (Hammond B3, leslies, etc.) Compared to a B3 ANYTHING is a lightweight. But the P120 is certainly manageable. I'm so impressed with modern instruments.....weight, size, sound, features, prices. What an improvement over the old gear. Excuse me for being so impressed! I like the P120. Mike T. Yamaha Motif ES8, Alesis Ion, Prophet 5 Rev 3.2, 1979 Rhodes Mark 1 Suitcase 73 Piano, Arp Odyssey Md III, Roland R-70 Drum Machine, Digitech Vocalist Live Pro. Decisions, decisions !I just came in from a studio session where I took a chance by taking my Electro, and for the piano parts, controlled my Kurz ME-1 module with it. It went off without a hitch - in fact, playing the module with the v-sense Electro keys was very expressive and live-sounding. The engineer & producer were surprised by the overall quality. I also had to park a ways away & carried my gear a block or two. A 20lb keyboard and a gym bag for the module, pedals & stuff in the other hand, was pretty cool. Now, if the Electro was a better controller!! Next OS!! PLEASE!! ____________________________________ Rod Here for the gear.
