Cheapest mic and what you use it for

My cheapest mic is this old ev crystal element mic for a strobocon tuner. I use it when I want that "AM radio" sound. My other cheap mic is this karaoke type mic with a 1/4 inch plug that has a built in choruse effect. I haven't found one thing it sounds good on, but I'm still hopeful. ;)

Some 15 years ago Audio Technica was pretty unknown, trying to get a place in the market. The ATM41 was one of their better dynamic mics. They had a very inexpensive mic then, the AT832 for some $35. I bought eight of that mics, which are good sounding mics and still use a couple of them sometimes.

Shure Unisphere A, Omnidirectional high impedance mic, sweet. I told you this story. When I was sixteen some moron sold me this to use with a PA system. Why the hell does this mic feed back so bad! Now I just use it to get a little of the room vibe.

Jeez, I used an old Radio Shack "Highball" mic for years for my main vocal mic. After I got a different vocal mic I used if to mic my acoustics. I gave it to my son. If he's not using it anymore I'm gonna get it back. I use some REALLY CHEAP, CAD mics. I got some from Mars Music. They were under $10.00 per, less cord. Another mic I use for some ambient room sound is an old EV631 High Z dynamic mic. I have a nice old pair & they work great for that. God help you with loud volumes though. They don't handle high spls worth a darn.

I bought an old telephone from the Salvation Army for $4 and a mic cable for $4. Wired it up to the mic in the handset for an authentic "telephone" effect. Works great!

i got this big, old, dumb, geeky, brown looking microphone at a garage sale for like 10 bucks. it's a telefunken something or another. model 251 i think. damn thing uses tubes and has this giant powerpack you have to use with it. stupid thing is so big there's no way i can spin it around and do my roger daltry imitation without hurting my arm. it's a piece of crap, but hey, maybe i can sell it and get one of those newfangled unidyne mics at the radio shack... :) -d. gauss

He knew what he had (I mean he knew what a nice-sounding mic it was), he just needed money and didn't know how much it was worth. He found out what they were going for a few years later and he gets nauseous when he thinks about what they're worth today... Anyway, my cheapest mic is one I snagged off of a trashed dictaphone they were throwing away at my office. It's not quite worth what I paid for it, though! :)
