Rompler Recommendation

Yeah, my CX-3 doesn't transmit velocity. I guess from reading that link the XK-3 does. I don't know how that affects the sound of the organ. Most organs I've heard have been one velocity.

HermanJoe,

If you have the 2001 new CX3 (vs. the 1980 old one), it will transmit velocity via MIDI. I owned one for about a year and used it to control a rack mount piano. There was a setting in the Global menu that needed to be toggled, but I do not remember exactly what it was. But you can definitely send velocity via the CX3 over MIDI. Check the manual and give it a shot.

Eric

Eric,

Thanks, That helps me. I guess I somehow got on this thing that it didn't transmit velocity. Maybe people thought we were talking the old CX-3.

Also on my orignal topic. is my only option for a rompler with great organ the Kurz K2661? Or going the rompler plus VK-8M route?

Hey Tom, have you lisened to the VK8M media clips on Roland's site lately. I didn't think it was anywhere near as impressive as the XK-3. I realize there's a whole lot of variables when it comes to doing media clips, but I'm assuming both Hammond and Roland put their best foot forward in their demos. But agai, the Roland module is about 40% of the price of the Hammond, so you get what you pay for.

I am going to try and find a K2661 to test out and see if that organ sound would be sufficient for what I need. If I need to get nasty I have a CX-3. But I looking for that all in one box. Seems the Kurz is the best option so far.

Thanks! I checked the manual (p26) and looks like you're right! I'm going to give it a try this week. Could be very cool if it does.

Other specifications are, 61 keys preferably, and sampling is not nessasary. Any thoughts

When I saw this I thought you just described my laptop with the B4D control module. I know you're thinking of a hardware piece, but definately look into the laptop solution. The huge advantage is that you can pretty much make it anything you want it to be.

If you're narrowing it down to Kurzweil. Check out the used market. My local guitar center has several used K2500 series and they're all under $1,000. Ebay is full of them. I recently purchased a nice PC2R for a little over $300.

Hermanjoe, I notice earlier you said you didn't like the sounds in your PC2X. I'm wondering, then, if you're going to like the sounds in the K2661.

Can anyone who knows these 2 sound sets comment?

Thanks for the correction GeekGurl; I had not noticed that. Hermanjoe - Most organ sounds (though not all) on the PC2 are done with KB3, and while they are more programmable in the K2661, their sound quality is *very* comparable. So if you dislike the organs on the PC2X, there's a good chance you'll feel the same about the K series. I would try one all the same, though - you never know. :)

My main problem with the PC2X was the action. I couldn't play it.

I will defiantley try a k2661 and make sure I Like it. The Kurz strings are very nice, I didn't mess with the KB3 mode on the PC2x too much, just the banks, but the action, I had to send it back. It seems the two share the orchestra ROM, but not the contemporary rom.
