Ben One
Hi, I wanted to ask if there are recent soft synths/VST plugins that support the Roland GS and Yamaha XG standards in addition to GM and GM2. Also, I'm interested to get recommendations of soft synths with particularly high quality GM/GS/XG soundsets. Thanks so much! Reverend Rhythm
ravity (http://luxonix.com/home/en/) may be worth a look. Most soft synths the don't go the GM route. I remember Sonic Reality having some GM stuff. Try them at esoundz.com. David
Ben One
Thanks so much Dave! I checked it out and it looks nice. I spoke to Roland and Edirol folks today and I've learned that GM2 is close enough to GS that it should work okay with those older files. Edirol's HyperCanvas software is GM2 compatible, which makes me happy! Ben Eddie Jobson Tribute Projects
Reverend Rhythm
Oh yeah. I forgot about that one! Tried and true. David
resigned
I have been using the Yamaha S-YXG50 soft synth for some time and I like it over the Roland/Edirol offerings. But then I like XG over GM/GS. Unfortunately Yamaha discontinued their XG softsynths and has no current XG softsynth that I know of, which is a little weird. I think it may be because Yamaha wants to back away from XG altogether. Here's a link to some info about the S-YXG50: http://www.yamaha.co.uk/xg/html/midplug/m_mid8.htm
