zeronyne
http://i18.ebayimg.com/02/i/02/33/b9/67_1.JPG It's on ebay right now...about 3 large. I haven't seen a WaveDrum in a long time. About ten years ago, I got to record with it for a glorious 3 days. Anyone here actually own one of these? "For instance" is not proof.
marino
A percussionist I work with frequently uses the Wavedrum as his main instrument. He has really mastered the touch on it, so it's very expressive. I'd say that it won't fool an expert into believing it's real tablas, or real congas; the main advantages are the minimum set-up time, no microphone hassles, no feedback worries - so especially for live playing, it's a godsend. Plus, the hybrid/synthetic sounds are a lot of fun. As I said, it's no substitute for the real thing(s) in exposed situations. But for ensemble playing, it's good enough, and a very nice instrument overall. Of course, it takes a percussionist's technique to play it; you can't just sequence it and expect similar results.
