Wewus432 Posted December 19, 2002 Posted December 19, 2002 To use the new USB 2.0 hardrives at the faster tranfer speed you'll need a USB 2.0 PCI card, just like you would need a firewire card to use those drives. You can use a USB 2.0 drive with USB 1.0 but you won't get the faster transfer speeds which you definitely want for audio work. USB 2.0 is a little faster than Firewire BUT coming soon is Firewire B which is faster than anything except the latest SCSI implementation. The advertised transfer rates of the media you're looking at are: USB 1.0-1.2 to 1.5 Megabytes per second Firewire-50 Megabytes per second USB 2.0-60 Megabytes per second Firewire B-100 Megabytes per second
Wewus432 Posted December 19, 2002 Posted December 19, 2002 Hank: It looks like you're still going to get USB 1.0 transfer rates with that, which ain't very fast. That's good for storage but I don't think it would be fast enough for any high track count projects.
