eric
Hey folks, Many of you know that I've been collecting Keyboard Mag for a very long time and had an almost complete collection minus 5 issues from over 20 years ago that I've been seeking for quite some time. Well, I finally found someone with the magazines I needed and they arrived today. So now I have every single Keyboard Mag ever published from 1975 to present. I'm very proud of my collection and I am still willing to help people find obscure content in this library. I don't have a ton of free time so it takes me a little while to respond, but let me know if you are seeking an article and I'll try to find it for you (I need to know at least a guess at month and year, what was the cover story etc.). There is no master index of articles, so it is challenging when someone says, "send me the article about Guy Babylon" or whatever. Here's a photo of my collection. It is organized but could be a little bit prettier. http://home.comcast.net/~eslawson/key_mag.JPG Regards, Eric
platypus
Niiice. Congrats! Sometime you'll have to digitize them with a scanner and put them in a database.
nursers
That is DAMN cool. I have assorted issues as far back as 85, would love to have the full set. Well done! Just for interest, where do you go to find old old back issues? eric
Just for interest, where do you go to find old old back issues? A variety of places. I found a number of issues on eBay, purchased in a one-off fashion. I also found a couple of people that had partial collections and so I would just make an offer for all they had, regardless of whether there were any dupes or not. So I do have some duplicate issues. Lately there have been a couple of prolific eBay sellers with a lot of the old issues. Some are quite rare and fetch a pretty penny if the artist on the cover is particularly famous. You have to be in the right place at the right time in many cases. I started subscribing in 1985 and had been buying off the newsstand for about a year prior to this. I had ordered a couple of Back Issues in the day that Keyboard sold them for like $1 apiece. So I had a small handful of them prior to 1984. All the rest have been assembled carefully over about the past 4-5 years. I had a grid with the missing ones and checked them off one by one. This latest score of 5 missing mags in one shot was huge! nursers
That's damn cool Eric. Just checked Ebay, and you're right, there's quite a few on there. One other question - do you bag them or they are just on shelf as is? If you do bag em, what size bags do you use. Phait
That's it? Seriously, I thought there'd be much more. Hey that's cool though, I have a hard time subscribing to anything if I don't have ALL OF IT.

steadyb
Would it be possible for you to post all the articles that mention Keith Emerson??? I've always been a really big fan, and I think I speak for many of us here when I say we would find those articles interesting and informative reading. I know it'll probably take a while in typing alone, so take your time of course. I won't have time to read them until this weekend anyway. Thanks in advance. eric
One other question - do you bag them or they are just on shelf as is? If you do bag em, what size bags do you use. (Guess who used to be a comic collector) Actually, I just have them on the shelf in cardboard magazine boxes, divided by year. Bags would probably increase longevity, but I'm constantly reading all of them, so I would rather enjoy them than treat them like museum pieces. Interesting that the 1970's issues are much thinner and I can fit 2-3 years in the same box vs. the later issues in which 12 will barely fit in a box. As for dupes, I'm down to about 30 duplicate issues from the late 80's and early 90's. PM me if you have interest in these. I would like to be rid of them! As mentioned above, I'm glad to help folks find articles. Here is a link in which I made this offer originally: Keyboard Magazine Librarian Ernie Rideout, where is the Oscar Peterson story based on the old article I sent you? Jeff Irok
Cool collection! Do you also have all those plastic floppy records that came with the issues in the mid-eighties? I was cleaning the attic last year and found that I still have a bunch of them. I don't know how they've held up over the years since I don't have a reliable turntable anymore, though. But they look in good shape. Check out my band's site at: The Key Components!

JimmieWannaB
You should take a few more shots and then mail them into Keyboard along with your story. I'm betting that Ernie would run a quarter page sidebar on it.

RABid
Wow, congrats. That is a nice collection. I started reading I think in 1977 and subscribing the next year. I returned from a road trip once to find that my mom had burned 10 years of early Keyboard that I had in the basement. Only two issues survide. I pull them out very often and look at the pictures or early Moogs, Oberheims and Prophets. Looking at advertisements in old Keyboard Mag's makes me feel like a kid looking at the toy section of a Christmas catalog. Robert This post edited for speling. cjwhite
Hi Eric! I would be forever indebted to you if you could help me find an October 1983 edition. It has Oscar Peterson on the front and there's an interview in it with Mike Score from A Flock of Seagulls that I'm dying to get my hands on. Someone just snipered the copy I was trying to get on eBay. *grumble* Many thanks! Cheryl In space, every direction is up.
